Buyer Beware! Daphne Blue Mustang

****Original post below but wanted to preface that the photos below are from an online Scam. Buyer beware!*****

Hey guys feeling irresponsible. Here's the scoop.

Backstory: Someone bid on a storage unit and won the contents inside. This Daphne Blue mustang was inside of it. Case Included. Photos were posted and an Ad was put up. The current owner doesn't play instruments, has no use for it, and doesn't seem to know anything about instruments. It's in working order, and per the owner has been 'tested and functions'. photos are limited and not great. Photos of the neck plate and the case are references I pulled from online because I don't currently have the actual ones downloaded.

my question is. what year can we approximate this to? I have no way of knowing and I have a feeling the owner is getting tired of all my questions and back and forth. the price is cheap, squire cheap but still a risk. I cant see the guitar in person so this is a leap of faith. Am I about to purchase a pile of garbage? or possibly an amazing fixer-upper?

notes:
no kluson tuners.
no serial on front and back of the headstock
no date anywhere on the body that I can tell
Daphne blue color/aging feels period correct.
Case feels period correct
white primer underneath daphne blue coat.
Neck Plate is BLANK but says L43599
Neck Decal/Neck feels suspcious

any help is appreciated.

I remember seeing this listed for sale in LA area but then the seller said he wasn’t in LA. Got kinda weird vibes and he stopped responding to me too. This was a month or 2 ago…seemed too good to be true

If it’s Squier cheap, surely worth the risk man?

It's possibly a '64-'65 Mustang, so if it's for real that would be a killer deal. But, it could also be too good to be true, so be cautious.

Other than changed tuners, everything I can see looks good, body for sure.

I‘d say the same. 1964 with an A neck. Or early 65.

***SCAM // BUYER BEWARE***

alright so after a bunch of back and forth I've finally come to the conclusion that this was a scam. as RIORIO pointed out they had seen that ad 2 months prior and gotten weird vibes. I asked the owner to authenticate the guitar by video-calling me, or showing me any recent photos, and they stopped responding. So if you see this ad or photos like this on craigslist, or offer up in Los Angeles or CA in general. report and stay away! Thanks for the help!, it was definitely too good to be true.

I think you should pull the neck off and see what it says in the neck pocket I think it’s a 70s reissue it doesn’t line up in my mind for a genuine 60s model. Best of luck.

Glad you sniffed this out as a scam before proceeding.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was on OfferUp, that place is a den of thieves and scam artists.

There's a similar one all over Chicago CL (and I imagine plenty of others). Posts in the city and you nibble, then they're either not in the city or can't meet for a few days, but will hold it for 1/2 upfront...
