Best gig bag for vintage mustang guitar
Hello,
I just bought a great '66 mustang but the OHSC doesn't seems the best solution to carry it everywhere (old, fragile, heavy).
Does someone have any advise or experience about accurate gig bag for vintage mustang guitar such mono, reunion blues, ....?
Many thanks for you feedback.
Eric

Re: Best gig bag for vintage mustang guitar
My Mustangs have fit into literally every gig bag I've ever owned. They're not like Jazzmasters or Jags, they're narrow and short enough to fit into any generic case in my experience. I say generic because there are things like semi-rigid gig bags form-fitted to Les Pauls and stuff like that, but my generic semi-rigid gig bags from Fender and Mono fit them just fine, along with every soft gig bag I own.

I actually kept my 1970 mustang in a mono padded gigbag. It was perfect for getting around NYC and very common to see guys carrying mono cases around in this city.

Thanks all for your advises.
About padded mono one, which one do you have in mind ?
the classic M80 one ? the mono sleeve one ? or the vertigo one ?
For the sleeve and vertigo version , i have a doubt about the headlock position. Does the Mustang's length (from head to body buttom) is not too short to allow the neck being compatible with the molded Headlock ?

A Mustang is the same length as a Strat.

I'd get a Mono sleeve...I love mine...expensive, but built to last.

Re: Best gig bag for vintage mustang guitar
I use an M80 for my main bag for gigs (either Jaguar or Rickenbacker 330, with the other staying at home in its case) and I haven't used a guitar hard case outside of the house since I got it. It's really great and has a lot of smart features that took me a while to appreciate. (Pen holders and keyring? clever!). I wish it didn't have the gray pocket contrast, but whatever.
I'd think a Mustang would work just as well as Jaguar. The headlock works by securing the neck with a velcro strap and should be good with a Mustang.
We also have a Vertigo for a bass (Rickenbacker) that works well, too. (But I couldn't judge if that means a Mustang will fit in the guitar version). No strap on the headlock (at least not he bass version).
I had also tried out the Gator gig bag, figuring it'd be close at a cheaper price point. The Mono stuff is a couple steps better quality in all regards. Worth it.

Re: Best gig bag for vintage mustang guitar
Yeah, I have to agree with everyone that the Mono bags are the best. I also have analogous models from Fender and Gator for various reasons (seeing if I could save some money, ordering a bass from a store that stocked Gator but not Mono, etc).
I actually quite like all three, but the Mono is definitely the highest quality. The cost is easily worth it for an expensive guitar.
