Difference in Jazzmaster sunburst finishes

Perhaps this comes as obvious to some of you, but I was oblivious of it. I recently noticed how 59' sunburst Jazzmasters tend to have a clearer coat of 3 color sunburst finishes than the 60's models. It can be clearly seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rit7UEjmC4E&t=125s
Look at how black the upper horn looks on the 60's models vs the 59. I was wondering if anybody knew what is the cause of this. I'm definitely intrigued
