I was going to say, the pearloid dots on my 65 certainly didn't factor into the sale in any way whatsoever!
Looked a lot like this one, though, so either we both had fakes or they're both legit!

The unbound neck of my 65 also has pearloid dots... I never think of them as rare at all, since I have never seen any Fender from 1965 with clay dots.
Besides that, yours is a gorgeous D&B specimen. Happy NGD!

D&B= Dots and Binding.

However, on the "deluxe models", it is a rare occurence, since around the summer of 1965, they all got a binding around the fretboard, and in 1966 the dots were replaced by block inlays. Yes, this is exactly what I meant. Pearloid dots on an unbound Jaguar are what I meant are rare, not pearloid dots in general.
It was after they ran out of the pre-CBS clay dot stock, but before they added binding. A transitional perloid before the transitional period of D&B.
Always check the model code on an unbound pearloid dot Jaguar neck, because Mustangs, Duo-Sonic IIs, and Musicmaster IIs were produced in far greater numbers for far longer, so some people might try a decal swap to fake a Jaguar neck (or decal swap and fudge the stamp, though that's less common and harder to get right).
This one looks right, though.

How come some guitars from this era have LOTS of finish checking- and this one - has none? I see none of the running cracks up and down the headstock or body finish that you'd normally see on a lot of guitars from this era (and the thing that the custom shope and 'relickers' try so hard to copy...)

Congrats and enjoy! FWIW, the mute foam on my '63 Jag had fossilized long before I acquired it back in 2018. I have the whole mute mechanism safely stored away with the original bridge once I switched from a Mustang bridge to my Mastery bridge.

Either it's a closet/case queen and/or it's simply been very well cared for by the previous owner(s). The original and only previous owner of my '64 Fender Reverb Unit took exceptional care of it - it's museum-quality mint. He sold it to Carter Vintage Guitars (where I bought it online) along with I believe a '62 Fender Concert amp - also museum quality. Wish I could have afforded both.
