Danelectro Danoflex vibrato
Has anyone got any experience with the Danoflex type of vibrato?? I think the designs of Nat Daniels are Brilliant to say the least!! I want to make a few of these and need some input. Are they stainless steel for one. How much pitch change etc. Anybody got one of these???

Re: Danelectro Danoflex vibrato
very weird. very little pitch change, methinks.
i assume the bent steel plate is the whole mechanism?
spring steel?
it seems like the mounting screws would take the brunt of the stress.

Haven't found any info online. And I have installed a vintage Japanese trem on a Dano. Next phase is a hybrid design like this. But the one piece design just seems so amazing. Gotta Try it out!!

The simplicity of the whole thing is fantastically cool but I can't imagine it's a good vibrato by ANY stretch. It looks like the Vibrola principle of operation but worse, way worse.
Might there be a spring in the body though? The round knob thingie between the E- and A-strings looks like it would be a part of the mechanism.

I don't think so. Considering where the knob thing is located, my first guess would be it just covers a 2nd hole for the trem arm to be able to use it left-handed.

Indeed, my though exactly.Ceylon wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:38 amThe simplicity of the whole thing is fantastically cool but I can't imagine it's a good vibrato by ANY stretch. It looks like the Vibrola principle of operation but worse, way worse.

I don't think there is a spring, as the position would not make sence. A spring would push up the trem and therefore mess up the tuning.
Also given the audience for Danelctro back then was by no means high end. So, it's a very simple design.
From what I can see, it functions like a vibrolo, but much simpler as the actual bridge is part of the design.
The vibrato would only be very subtle, very slight pitch change.

Re: Danelectro Danoflex vibrato
I was thinking more along the lines of a spring inside the body connected to the vibrato via a screw, so that it's pulling down and gets compressed when you push down on the arm, not unlike how the JM vibrato is built. But I agree it seems unlikely they'd have gone through the effort.ohm-men wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 11:04 amIndeed, my though exactly.Ceylon wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 4:38 amThe simplicity of the whole thing is fantastically cool but I can't imagine it's a good vibrato by ANY stretch. Re: Danelectro Danoflex vibrato
Thought I would revisit this topic. I am still looking to try one of these bridges. Was hoping someone else my have some input. How thick the metal is and if it is stainless steel , or chromed spring steel. Gonna have to make one and try the action...

Just looking at that thing gives me anxiety
I feel like you could do better with literally any other approach. It’s a cheap piece of tin with a couple bend points. I’ve messed with guitars that house this thing and it’s never come across as a serviceable unit and I’d imagine it’s gonna be impossible to make it so
I’d be shocked if it were anything other than cheap typical potmetal
