What is it? Any ideas?

Post by Poppy1392 » Mon Aug 17, 2020 10:12 am

Hi All,

New to this forum. I just bought this guitar off of Reverb. Described as a 1970s Fujigen Gakki. Made in Japan stamp on the neck mount plate. Nothing else. PUPs and hardware look like many I've seen on Greco and Teisco models. Just wondering if anyone has seen a Japanese offset that looks like a Fender Jaguar/Jazzmaster. I can't find anything like it on the internet. Sorry can't seem to find a way to attach a picture.

Teisco
Harmony

Silvertone

Look in old Sears catalogs from the 1960s to early 1970s.

Ry Cooder made the pickups in those old guitars popular -- and in such demand people started buying these old guitars to strip out the pickups and toss the carcasses. They are cool guitars on their own and should be repaired not gutted.

Thanks for the insight. My plan is to make it a player and save the original parts. The PUPs and switches are good. I am replacing the bridge with a TOM. Ironically the fretboard radius is 12" so perfect for that bridge. Have to either repair or replace the nut but that's about it. Only paid $225, so I think I can make it a good player on the cheap.
