Very anticlimactic as there is no date visible in the trem pocket, just black paint. Would a paint remover product leave the date in tact? (If it’s there).

I would first see if the black layer (probably a overspray based on what looks like sunburst) flakes off if you scrape it with a pick. Do post some more photos… How deep is the carve?

Well of course it was, I'm almost getting a second-hand high just by looking at it... And maybe it's just me, but it'd be damn shame to restore such a time machine piece to whatever not-even-close-to-all-original an average luthier can achieve.

Anyway, wouldn't the trem cavity date have been written in pencil so it's all cool as long as you don't resort to sanding?

It’s like they made a special little chill-out area in the trem cavity…

Leave this body alone in a dark room on the summer solstice and I expect a ring of mushrooms will grow around it and the fairy king will appear!

Crazy… quite an undertaking!

If I was going to restore it (not sure I would dare for fear of angering vengeful fairies and goblins) I’d use a router sled or a CNC to plane down to a flat point and glue on a new top and rout again using a vintage template. With the right machinery not too crazy a job!

Not sure why marijuana leaves are so cringey. But, they are. Good score

Probably because of all the edgy teens that had them on everything thinking they were rebelling. LOL
