I'm not on the forum too much these days, but had to post this here for the archives - after ~30 years of searching I finally found and purchased a lovely pre-cbs JM in original Sonic Blue. Pics below, hope you enjoy.
There may not be much quantity but Bterry is always quality.

Gorgeous looking guitar.

:)

Thanks, everyone - it is indeed a great NGD.

Pre-cbs Jazzmasters in Sonic Blue are ridiculously rare, more than Jags or even Strats, certainly. I’ve owned two (!) pre-cbs foam green JMs but this was the first Sonic Blue pre-cbs I had the chance to buy since the mid 90s!

Feel very lucky to have found this one.

Wow, she looks like she’s in great shape. What was the hard part about finding the guitar? I don’t really follow vintage gear closely so I’m not sure if this is just a rare color, or it’s hard to find one in great shape, etc…

Wow! Stunning and almost unbelievable, but there it is!

Enjoy! I would definitely spend lots of time just admiring as well as playing that beautiful thing.

Both - I’ve only seen 3 legit pre-cbs Sonic Blue Jazzmasters for sale in 30 years of searching, so they are impossible to find at all let alone in nice original shape.

What a beauty!!
I do have one but it doesn't look that good. Mine is '63 Sonic Blue over Sunburst...so not sure if it was factory made like this. Let me figure out how to post pics and I'll include some.

Might be but you’d have to get under the guard and into the neck pocket/cavities to check and be certain.

Never seen a sonic over SB but they certainly did paint over SB in ‘63 - mine is a traditional sonic over desert sand and in ‘64 they tended to paint sonic over mustang blue.

holy smokes - Sonic over Desert - what a sublime combo for a JM! how did that even happen?

even the flaws on that guitar are perfect!!
