1966 jaguar

Post by Paul Will » Tue May 07, 2024 9:41 am

Has anyone ever seen a completely date specific 1966 Jaguar, with all matching dates, ie, wiring harness, pickups, ES body stamp, even case is 1966, with a brand new 1969 A width neck? I got the guitar from the nephew of the original owner, said that his uncle bought it new in the 60's'. everything matches, even the original neck shims are still in place.

Could it be that maybe the original neck was faulty and factory replaced in 69? Is it blocked and bound?

Yes, It's blocked and bound. It's a 69 neck for sure, stamp affirmed. But the oddest part is that it is absolutely spotless. I mean brand new. The nephew of the original owner said that he never saw it in real life until his uncle passed. It's an ES stamped body, which in itself is super clean, a couple tiny marks. I've thought like you, has to be a replacement neck, because it is a one owner. I'm still curious. I can't figure out how to add pic or I would.

Or they started assembling a Jag in '66 on a Friday at 4:50pm and in the rush to clean up and go home they stuck it in some cabinet. Then come Monday, they forgot about it, and that cabinet got moved, and was never looked in again until 1969?

I know that sounds weird, but there's a reason I'd believe that. In the school district I work in as an IT guy a Chromebook was found in a locked cabinet belonging to a teacher that had retired. It was reported missing a year prior. It had a Post-It with my name on it and the date it was found, saying to give it to me. It was never given to me and was found a year later.

If you have trouble posting pics, I often recommend imgur.com as it's easy to literally copy and paste images into your account from a web browser or uploading via the mobile app. Then you could use the BBCode share link and paste that in your post.

Wow! That thing was a case queen, huh?

I'd love to see all the marks and stamps under the hood.

Looks basically new man, amazing. Aye maybe when it was bought it came with a bound and dots neck, then when the transition to blocked and bound boys was complete he/she preferred that and contacted Fender about a replacement man. As someone else said, it could also be that it was half built in 66 then left somewhere to 69 too. Either way, great looking Jag man.

That is SERIOUSLY clean! I love it!

Also a great example of why I hate vintage reissues having some horrible amber tint all over the necks. They look just so good pale like this!

Fender did buy a huge stash of potmeters in 1966, so Fenders from 1966-1969 basically all had potmeters from 1966. Given it has the hexagonal keywinds, it's say it's a late 68 early 69 jaguar.

But what a condition it is in! :?

Ah, that’s interesting, didn’t know Fender done that. Would the pick ups not be dated as ‘69’s though?

Of course they would. Everything on this guitar, including body stamp (not pictured is 66). The mystery is the neck. It had to be replaced at the factory.
