Incoming NGD. I'm excited about this one - 1966 Mustang

Post by Embenny » Fri Jun 02, 2023 1:52 pm

ImageI've got something on the way in the mail that I'm extremely excited about. More so than just about any guitar I've acquired in the last couple of years.

First hint: there's one particular OSGer who is forbidden from guessing what it is.

I guess you bought it off this particular OSG member.

Hmm. Vintage Starcaster?
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Indeed, though it was a trade deal and not a purchase.

I wish I had a vintage Starcaster, but this is decidedly more solid-bodied.

George Harrison Tele?? :w00t:
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Maybe he's getting that Bo Diddley back? Hard to think of a more solid-bodied instrument than that.

I don't think Maggie is letting that one go. Also, this is a vintage guitar.

Given that it's in the Main Stage section (thus not a non-offset) and you're saying it's "shorter scale", I'm gonna guess it's a 24" scale offset, and it's probably something oddball... Duo-Sonic? Bronco?

Wait, doesn't "Main Stage" mean offsets and "Side Stage" means other guitars?

It's an old Jaguar is my new guess.

Less oddball than that.

It's not a Jaguar, I finally have accepted that I don't need any more of them. Still love mine to bits, but I'm satisfied on that front.

Close, just...not a bass!

It's my old '66 Mustang that Steve took care of for a while.

And man, did he ever take care of it. I found it in a pawn shop in Montreal with the finish crudely stripped and glittery nail polish all over the pickguard. I traded it to him a couple of years ago, and he promptly got his tech to refinish it in its original white. Rescued the original pickuard, too.

It has a beautiful flamed maple neck and I've been regretting letting it go ever since I saw how beautifully it cleaned up. It feels great to be getting it back in the fold, and 1000x improved compared to the state I last saw it in:
