Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
Thanks, Mark! So is the Ural arm sitting kind of high in the Yamaha collet? The Ural trem parts certainly look close, though I can see a few differences comparing with examples on frelonvert's site. I've got an old broken SG arm, and I can measure that to see if it matches the diameter of the Ural one.

Hi Gavanti,
I now make an aftermarket version of the SG2-SG3 and SA-50 arms and collets. I have put a couple of videos out on Youtube but haven't advertised it here yet as I haven't completed the 3rd video.
I intend to make them on demand as the guy in Japan seems to have stopped making them.
Cheers
Sean

As you can tell, I could use some of your collets

Thanks, Sean! That's super useful info. If I end up with a guitar that needs one, I'll send you a message.SuperAxe wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 11:18 pm

Wow, that is an impressive collection. It looks though that all of them already have the vibrato bars installed, except for the second one from the left. The latter looks more like a Yamaha SA-30 whammy bar assembly. I have made aftermarket bars for those too but need to source more S/S material to make more of them.surfin_bird wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 9:39 amAmazing Sean, I already found your video's looks super good.SuperAxe wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 11:18 pmHi Gavanti,

At the moment, I have enough material to make multiple SG2/SG3 and SA-50 bars and collets.

Unfortunately it's not all what it seems.SuperAxe wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 11:28 pmWow, that is an impressive collection. Someone flipped the collet on the sg12 and glued it shut.
For the SG-2a I ordered an arm from Japan but it's missing the groove and as I recall the collet is missing a part too so the arm just swings and falls out.
Combined over the red sg2 and an sg3 project I have one working collet and arm without the tip.
Anyways, i'll send you a pm if that's ok.
Truely amazing someone decided to recreate them.

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
Here is the SG3 I bought. Pretty cool guitars, it didn't come with a tremolo arm so I made one. The tremolo is really squeeky and kind of tight feeling, the adjustment screw doesn't seem to do anything so I'm gonna have to open that up and see what's going on. I'm also suspecting someone stuck a piezo in there because with the upper bought tone selector switch down, if I strum behind the bridge it's actually louder than the pickups!
Neck isn't super thin either, it's got a mellow V shape which is nice.

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
In the sixties and seventies, Yamaha sold their guitars with a leather Yamaha labeled strap. The strap was dyed a bright red colour and the shoulder pad was bright red on top with gold coloured Yamaha lettering. The back is a really nice cream colour which doesn't show on my photo sadly.
I got this one with the Yamaha SA-30 I bought a decade ago. The guitar almost looks brand new and the strap was never used. Here some photos of it, some with a ruler to show dimensions. (In case you would like to make your own )

YAMAHA SG-2/SG-3 and YAMAHA SA-50 aftermarket WHAMMY BAR & COLLET
As said in an earlier post, I can now make an aftermarket whammy bar and collet for these guitars upon request.
I have made three videos detailing what's involved. Part 1 is generic for both SG2/3 and SA50. Part 2 is detailing assembly of SG2/3 whammy bar. Part 3 is for the SA-50 but the latter needs final editing before posting it on youtube.
Below are the links (don't know how to embed a Youtube video).
