That $trat guy, Matthew Scott, finally picks up a Jazzmaster...

Post by PorkyPrimeCut » Wed Feb 01, 2023 7:56 am

...a nice one too.

To be fair, I kinda like this guy. I'm not a fan of his music but he's a hell of a player & his videos are always delivered with a very humble honesty. He's found & examined some fantastic barn finds & oddball instruments over the years. Most of his output keeps me watching from beginning to end.

I really like his playing on this one. There's a buzz stop on it, which doesn't really surprise me (I've no idea if he put it on but I doubt it) & he doesn't seem to know exactly what the rhythm circuit does. Still, it sounds fantastic!!

He'll be taking it apart soon, which should be fun, and apparently revealing "a hidden detail" he was "very surprised about". Swimming pool route?

I’m glad we can all agree that ‘63 is one of the best years for fender guitars.

Also, I dream of getting a Jag or JM in that condition, and to be able to play like him.

These videos are so painful to watch though. I’ve noticed some people bookmark pedal reviews with little chapter markers on YouTube, that’s super helpful to avoid the rest of the video.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I don't think I've ever seen a bridge slammed right to the body of a Jag or JM before. Sounds great though.

I've made some trades with Matthew, and I already emailed him to put a mastery bridge on it, and to remove the buzzstop.

If you've seen his "disgusting tele videos" I'm his "buddy Andrew from Canada", who put the mastery on the tele ;)

I like his channel and he tends to find some really interesting vintage stuff, was cool to see him playing a Jazzmaster, even if it has a buzzstop :-X

Considering Matthew's playing style, the Buzz Stop is perfectly logical (and explains having the bridge decked, because it makes that possible without strings coming off the saddles).

He seems like a nice guy, and definitely passionate about vintage gear (which is uncommon among YouTubers..).

What a nice looking '63, great vibe and I love the faded tort on this one.

Indeed! It was a cool guitar, but the weight was just unbearable.. it was like 9 and a half pounds or something stupid.

I ended up selling it back to him, and later on I found a really beat '66 Tele, so all is well :)

Finally! I really like his videos and his passion on vintage stuff, he has seen some interesting things over the years.

That 63' is amazing, and he got a HUGE tone out of it. Listening to a nice Jazzmaster seducing a new player is always fun ::) You can tell by the end of the video that he's a convert.

How much could you get for that particular guitar on reverb these days? Prices are all over the place

Same guy with the same guitar, just clean tones.

Is it me or is he starting to bond with it? ;D Even the Strat/Les Paul guy can't resist the draw of a vintage Jazzmaster!

Looks like he's convinced for sure. Funny seeing all these guys suddenly fawn over the JM after calling them 'weirdo' and 'hipster' guitars for decades.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I for one am not convinced. I've had a JM for a few weeks and can't seem to make it work with my music. Too bright, too much midrange coming from a Strat. I love the clean tones but I don't like it with fuzz, it's like there's always some clean treble sitting on top of the fuzz. I think I need smaller pots or flatwound strings.

What model/pickups have you got?
