Not being part of the Djentlemens club is nothing to be ashamed of. I consider myself very open-minded with musical styles but Djent is, well, fucking unlistenable to me.

Re: Djent Jaguar Pickup?
i'm kinda in this camp myself. i've got this weird thing where if a lot of people like a genre/style of music, i try listening to it in a bunch of different situations to see if it "clicks" and the sad part was, it clicked and then i immediately realised "ok, there's other music that scratches that itch better for me" it's angry mood music. but if i'm in a bad mood and want to wallow in it, i'll stick on sunn o))) or boris. if i want to get over it, i'll stick on converge or orchid.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 4:21 amNot being part of the Djentlemens club is nothing to be ashamed of. as for actual music.... it's technically proficient but it all starts to sound the same. i've not seen much evolution in the genre since i first heard meshuggah in 2008. yeah, the production has gotten better but everyone is using the same pickups, the same plugins, the same guitar tones. it just gets annoying. it also feels very "artificial" imho. i'll admit, i find shitty production charming because i like to hear the musician put in their all. reminds me of playing in post-hardcore/skate-punk bands as a teenager and being like "we've got 1 day in the studio, pressures on, gotta get it right first time" where as a lot of djent is so sample replaced that it might as well be pop music.
i also think the djent fanbase don't do themselves any favors. the fact it's 2023 and i'm still seeing "but does it djent" jokes and "check out my new riff - 01100010 01110101 01110100 01110100" doesn't show much hope for the genre. however, i do see it slowly dying out. part of me thinks whatever is going to come along in the heavy music space to replace it has to feel more "real" as a reaction.
anyway. extended range jaguar. could be interesting. if it's tuned low enough, you could have the ability to do the "tick-tack" bass parts AND the guitar parts on old country records without swapping guitar.

Re: Djent Jaguar Pickup?
I mean, it's a musical style that basically doesn't have discernible notes. There's only so much distorted staccato sub-bass one can make before any semblance of originality is gone. I get people wanting that vibe, but I agree that the next trend in metal is definitely going to be a reaction to and rejection of djent.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 6:40 ami also think the djent fanbase don't do themselves any favors. the fact it's 2023 and i'm still seeing "but does it djent" jokes and "check out my new riff - 01100010 01110101 01110100 01110100" doesn't show much hope for the genre. however, i do see it slowly dying out. part of me thinks whatever is going to come along in the heavy music space to replace it has to feel more "real" as a reaction.
The only way I can take it is when it's intended as a joke, like this song.

Re: Djent Jaguar Pickup?
i think there's hints at the next big trend in metal but it's difficult to say this early on. there's the big rise of what some people have been calling "deftonescore" but i don't think that's a sound that can be evolved on much more than it already has tbh. granted, djent has hardly evolved since obzen and that was (googles) 2008.
there's a lot of new blackened death metal bands out there but i feel that style isn't really going to be the easiest thing for new metal fans to get into.
trap metal has potential to be the next big thing but i feel like the metal gatekeepers won't like it..... saying that, they really hated the myspace deathcore/metalcore/scene bands when that was new and now most of them have come around on it.

It's people playing drum beats on guitars. Aggressively.
I kinda dig it, but I like heavy music and play drums.
It's not trying to be a woodwind quartet, they're not going for lovely & inspiring melodies or anything. More focusing on rhythms, or barrages of musical punches.

Re: Djent Jaguar Pickup?
There is a lot more thought out "Djent" music out there that isn't just the meme worthy stuff. Animals As Leaders for instance.
... more importantly, why isn't this thread called Djaguar pickup?
