Jag 1963 tremolo plate - original or reissue

Post by Guitarman555 » Sun Sep 25, 2022 12:47 am

Hey guys, I bought a great playing 1963 jag with some repairs and changed hardware few months ago. I already posted here question about fretboard of my pre-cbs jag, which according you should be original.
Now I am wondering about the tremolo plate, do you think it is original?

I don't see why this could be an reissue. With the caked on paint and wear and tear. Why do you think it could be an reissue?

Well the jag has most of newer tuners and also probably the chrome pickguard plates are not original. So that's why I was wondering about tremolo plate. I saw some ninetees jag and jazzymaster trem plates and reissues and they all lookvery similar including patent number, logo etc ..
What I know for sure is that 6 screws are not original.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by this. I am sitting here looking at a 63 Jaguar—neck & trem pocket dated 12/62—ser # 939XX—and the trem plate has 6 screws, so forgive me if I missed your meaning.
Isn’t Sunburst a guarantee it’s NOT a refin?

Hi, yes, there are always 6 screws, but they probably changed screws (mine have higher heads, the screws heads shouldn´t be much over the surface).

Otherwise do you think my tremolo plate is the same as yours (from both outside and inside)?

Hopefully this how to link an old topic. I thought I’d never find this… the best pics are farther down the page where someone helped me with image sizes. These are the only pics I have of the only time I’ve ever taken it apart.

As for the appearance, yes it looks very much like mine did. The previous owner has closed the case with the arm in place, which drove the arm well into the collets, and I was lucky enough to extract it without breaking anything.
