Looks like a refin to me as well. Cool guitar though.

Yes it seems likely but it’s still a keeper.

I didn’t pay very much for it so even though it’s refinished I’m way in front.

It’s a beautiful guitar!
Definitely. If it were mine I might see if the extra jack hole in the pickguard could be patched with some donor tort material, but otherwise play and enjoy as-is.

It’s definitely beautiful, yeah, refin or not. That fretboard looks like a joy to play.

On your image page, I (on my phone) long-click image>share>copy, then pasted that link here in img tags.

Sorry not sure what your message means?
Can you explain?
Thanks.
I’m using an iphone, but I assume this process applies to other devices. If you go to one of your links, like https://ibb.co/L80c1zb, and right-click or long-click on the photo there, you can choose to share it. When you click on share, you can then choose to copy it, which will copy the URL of the actual jpeg.

Then you come back here and paste that URL in a message. Select the URL you just pasted and click the image button above the text box (the little mountain and sun button), and it will put img tags around the URL.

Click Preview and see if it worked.

It worked for me.^

I’m currently trying to speak to the original owner of this guitar as his name is on the case.

I’m hopeful I may be able to speak to the original owner so I can ask if the guitar was refinished and if so when and what was the original colour.

Ideally I would love to get a copy of an old photo of the guitar before the refinish was completed.

Wish me luck!

However she is a beauty.

God, that is just stunning. I don't want to know what you paid for it, I would be crying with envy I suspect.

Thanks mate. It's a beautiful guitar. I have a Fiesta red 82' AVRI Stratocaster and a Les Paul Custom which are also amazing however this Jazzmaster certainly has a special place in my small collection.

A pre CBS guitar is a keeper.

Yeh 58-61 are my absolute favourites. The best Jazzmasters ever made imo. I see from the photos its been partially rewired in case you didn’t know…and what’s with the extra jack socket??

At some point in the 60’s the additional Jack was installed for stereo.

How can you tell if it’s been partially rewired?

I think the wiring is a mix of original and later additions; those thick shiny black wires are definitely not original. The bridge pickup wires were replaced and its ground wire appears to be grounded in a different place than usual.

They came with waxed cloth wiring...all the black plastic wiring is unoriginal.
