Correct, and you can't talk about the Italian roots of the mandolin without giving a shout out to Vivaldi.
Yep, perfect example. I've played mandolin on more than a few occasions and always enjoyed it. I haven't owned one for a hot minute though.

I think they, along with things like Bouzouki, descended from the lute and other medieval strung instruments. I still have a Bouzouki somewhere I've owned for about 25 years. Maybe I should dig it out.
