I use samples a lot in my process. From repeating guitar lines- recently then putting them through slow autofilters- to repeating phrases, bits from other bands, drum loops, etc etc.
Always been a massive fan of Public Enemy and TV on the Radio, so it seems quite natural, really.
I guess my band is quite groove based. I tend to find that exact repetition is different to playing the same thing over and over. I like it more. especially over stuff that's unquantized. They kick together nicely.
Intro to sampling -- Anyone use them regularly in your writing process?

Live my drummer has a Roland SPD-SX, but as a general rule we don't play to a click so that constrains some of the stuff we could do with it.
Love Soul Coughing too.
