some of you will be horrified - but i've been having fun with this lately


its a mono synth that i just wrote in PD (free synthesis language)

my main hardware synth is a dave smith evolver


and soon i'll have an old buchla 100 modular system (this isn't the one - but similar - i'll take pictures soon)

Nice PD synth - I worked a little with it a couple of years back, but worked with Max/MSP more.

Buchla synths are mental, but brilliant.

mmmmm buchla. love the new 200e's.
an old modular one would be pretty awesome too...how much is that going to run you?

i teach electronic music at a university - its sitting in a storage space unused!

i always felt like i got rid of all my unnecessary synths but you guys make me feel like a hoarder.  here's some of mine:

...by the way, what is PD?  Looks similar to Cycling 74.s MAX/MSP environ...

I just have a Little Phatty, a Monomachine, a Nord Stage, an SH101, and just got in my monome 64.  I'm not hip enough (or knowledgeable to know what to do with it) to have a bunch of old modular stuff - although it would be cool to learn.

I really need to get back in the saddle with Max/MSP. It's been nearly two years since I actually did anything at all with it.

At the moment all I have is a Microkorg, which is a pretty powerful little synth for the money (even if it is a PITA to program).

When I was at University the studio tech had two VCS3's with CV keyboards in his office, sitting around doing nothing...

I wish I had the time to learn to use PD/Max.  If I didn't have a demanding job, a wife & baby, family living in close proximity, three dogs, a band, and a flag football team; I'm inclined to think I would definitely pick it up!

I've never used Max MSP before... Is it comparable to reaktor?  I've heard Kyma is cool too,
Never used any of these sound design engines yet.. but i hear that possibilities are limitless.
SoundHack, and SoundFlower for OS X was a great little app too.

I really wanna get into such sound design programs and etc.. but i fear my cpu is too slow
and it might be a time-consuming hobby (especially learning how to do stuff at first)..
PS.. i played with some demos of reaktor 4/5 i think..  super cool softsynth

All my synths are software. But I have a good midi controller, so I have a lot of fun with them.

I used Reaktor in first year of university, and I think they made us use it as a sort of introduction to some of the principles in Max/MSP. There are definitely similarities, and if you can use Reaktor you'll definitely get the hang of Max/MSP.

I remember I made a really great noise/drone synth in reaktor once, but I don't have it installed on my new computer...

yea, right around the time reason went into 2.0 i sold off all of my vintage synths that were "just" synths.  the only stuff i kept was stuff i could plug my guitar into... (i.e. the korg ms20, electrocomp, octave kitten) 

reason is so good at doing "normal" synth sounds, i don't think i'll ever have to buy a poly synth again.  even if i found a mint condition polymoog or prophet, i doubt i'd buy it because they just take up too much room and aren't half as editable as soft synths these days.  the synths i have left are where i go to if i need a funky guitar synth or just random weird freaky sounds (hence the modular speak and spells).  that's the kind of stuff that computers still have trouble with...

I know nothing about keyboards but this one was a lot of fun.

I have a Juno-60 - I Haven't used it in ten years though
