Anyone know the difference between that and the standard version besides price?

Re: Reason 4.
There is no difference between the academic and regular versions... just price. I'm a huge Reason 3 user. I Rewire Pro Tools and Reason together to do drum and synth tracks with PT audio. It's a very powerful and flexible way to work. I'd love to step up to Reason 4, which I'll probably do in a couple of months or so. The Thor synth module in R4 looks amazing! There's tons of Refills you can get that expand the Reason sound bank too. I have the Abbey Road keyboards Refill which is the bomb! Reason replaced all my analog synths/ drum machines a few years ago... when they came out with the Roland x0x Refill I retired my TR-606 and TR-707. If you can get the academic price of $239, I'd highly recommend it...

Yeah, the academic price is so much more manageable than the standard price.
Thanks for the input.

I LOVE Reason 4!
Basically any sound you can think up reason will help you create.
Thor is an awesome synth addition too.
I would definitely recommend it.

Re: Reason 4.
I'm a big fan of Reason since version one. I use the rex player for drum loops rewired to Cubase.
The timing in Reason is rock solid. Much better than the iffy midi timing Cubase was spitting through my Mac. The only thing I don't like is the way everything is going through the same D/A convertors standardising the sound.... but that's nerdy crap.
I use Reason selectively for certain offline tasks (see below).
In my latest project the drums are being recorded as folows:
Live drums recorded on Tascam DA88 > Dumped to Tascam 1/2 reel to reel for analog sound > recorded into Mac at 24bit > Loops selected and sliced in Recycle > Rex loops imported into Reason > timing errors carefully corrected being careful to not lose feel > Loops exported from Reason > Converted into Akai s3000 format > Loops triggered from Atari ST Cubase(!) synced via midi/smpte to Tascam 8 track analog.
It's a long winded process but it makes fantastic loops this way which you can do a hell of a lot with. Plus you get to work alongside analog tape which nothing beats for sound.

At $130 for an upgrade from any previous version of Reason, you get a really good deal..tremolite wrote: There is no difference between the academic and regular versions... just price. I used to teach Reason 1 at a drop out prevention program for kids.
Still use it alongside Logic.
Thor is a great sounding synthesizer and ReDrum a great drum sampler for quick-fix-albeit-fun beats.
It'll change the way you look at music.

Re: Reason 4.
You will be so glad you did. I am still at 3. something and it sounds fantastic. I used it as a synth on my macbook with the band I am in.

Re: Reason 4.
Yeah, I played around the demo. Didn't really spend too much time because I only have 20 minutes at a time. But it should be good timesprospect wrote:BenHagerty wrote: I just pulled the trigger, it should come some time late this week early next week I am guessing.
