Anybody use these? I was thinking about getting some to record drums.

Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

Nobody here has used these at all? I've heard of pzm's being used all over the place. As room mics, for capturing live performances, as a kick drum mic, taped to a drummers chest to pick up "what the drummer hears," on guitar amps.

Sure - I've used the old Radio Shack (Tandy/Realistic) PZMs for years... sometimes just as a boundary mic to capture ambience and sometimes to use 'normally'. They work well IMO.
Yes the cat has opposing thumbs and extra digits.

Used them years ago, don't think Tandy make them anymore. We used to have two of them mounted on perspex (I think) boards & would record the whole band live that way. Pretty good from what i remember. Seem to go for silly money on ebay these days.

I thought I would give them a try, I was curious as to whether they had to be used in conjunction with other mics, or if they could be used all by themselves. I like to record the whole band all at once (sticking the amps in closets/bathrooms),  and If they are too responsive to use on the drums, I thought I might use them on the guitar amps. I was just concerned because everything I have read said that they were used as room mics. Thanks for the comments guys.

yes - frequently.

i recorded the drums on my last band's first demo with a tandy pzm and a akg dynamic and got some very good sounds.

i'd recommend anyone to get one or two of them if they do any live recording.
