Studio monitors

id recommend you go to your music store, grab a cd from home that you know really well, and listen to monitors in the pricerange youre looking at. I recently did that and i'm going to go with some KRK VXT4s or 6s. ill have to compare once more before i actually buy, but ive narrowed down my choices to two pairs of monitors.

I was previously thinking about getting the smaller genelecs, but the problem with those is that they make everything sound good (even if your mix is crappy imo) and are a little bass heavy, so my mixes would always come out too bass light.
I also thought about the dynaudio BM5As but i found that they sounded really bland. ill give them a try one more time, but i was a little disappointed by them. The mid priced ADAMs i tried out sounded like they had a bit too much of a mid boost, which i didnt like. KRKs sounded quite flat and i was surprised by the bass response of the small VXT4s.

ill probably end up going with VXT6s since they are bigger, but the best i can recommend is that you go in and listen for yourself.

I've been really happy with my M-Audio BX5a's.  I know a few other people who use them as well. 
They are a very fair price (around 300 for the pair) and have a good bass response.

i've been using Samson Resolv 65-A's for a few years now, and i really like them. you never really appreciate midrange until you get a set of monitors, that's for sure! they were also pretty affordable, at about $300 for the pair as i recall.

i haven't even used my stereo for about two years, i just burn everything to my laptop and play it through the monitors. they really changed my listening habits.

I got a good price on some dynaudio BM5as. I love 'em, althougn my monitoring environment (read:bedroom) is still not acoustically up to snuff.

Well you should prolly float the floor in your room.. then put up another studwall all along the walls of your room..
if you need more insulation, replace that wall with a cinderblock wall filled with sand..

Nah, I'm thinking more along the lines of just putting them on stands and getting some auralex foam.

I helped build a 20 foot high double cinderblock filled with sand wall between a control room and live room when I was doing a co op back at a recording studio in highschool.. Massive!
