Tech 21 GED-2112 Geddy Lee Signature SansAmp
I bought one of these a while back, I wanted a quick solution for recording bass. I have it hardwired to where I just record two tracks of bass at the same time, I might change the sound of them at the preamp or later in the mix if I want to.
It's a very good unit, and very versatile. In that video above you'll see the performer doing some saturated J-bass stuff but it'll handle other sounds no problem. I bought the rack mount unit but if I was playing out I could easily see me getting a pedal solution.
Anyway, it's cool, it's not super expensive, versatile, well made and fun. Would recommend.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Interesting. I usually like doing bass amp sounds in the box for flexibility, but that does look cool and yeah pretty reasonable used.

Yeah I bet it sounds great!
I've used the sansamp bass driver pedals and rack units for years both for live and recording and always loved them, beefed up my Musicmaster Bass to Stingray levels of growl

Yeah, I used to do that, and I guess still do. But I would find myself fucking around tweaking presets and shit and not really getting anything done. There's a lot of good sounds out there, though.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 2:57 pmInteresting. True. You can really end up chasing your tail if you can change too many things during the mixing process.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 11:23 amYeah, I used to do that, and I guess still do. I've owned a bunch of Sansamp bass pedals in the past.
the classic Bass Drive DI
a Para DI
a Bass Driver Deluxe programmable
ALL were very good, and got me very decent bass tones on record.
But the biggest pain in the butt on the BDDI was the lack of a mid knob. Now, I know that bass-treble are interactive, and theoretically, one could boost mids by turning DOWN bass and treble, but that was a hassle sometimes.
The Geddy Lee DI looks intriguing. I'm setting up a home studio within the year, and this is top of my list for things to check out, for a bass DI.
(I'd also consider getting a power amp for it, to use it as a bass-rig for a rehearsal space)

THIS also looks killer. (and also fixes all the "wrongs" that I had with the BDDI)
