Looks like a lot of fun, thanks for sharing.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

The mic selection in particular was pretty bonkers. I was not expecting that.

We actually ended up using only our own amps (the Supro, Swart, and the black At Mars Specialist head and cab). The studio’s were cool, and maybe if we had more time we would have experimented more, but ours just worked right off the bat.

Yeah, it was just starting to come down when we were wrapping up on Sunday.

You did some of your album here, didn’t you?

It was fun, but it was also hard work.

Making this work with our budget and schedule meant putting in 12-14 hour days.

Yes, we tracked drums (for five or so songs) there. By "we", I mean "Michael" while "I" sat on the couch and stayed out of the way, as it should be.

Haha.

Kind of like drummers do when the pedals come out.

Same!

Those preamps were on a lot of the tracks. Guitars and toms I think.

If it were me they probably would’ve been on all the tracks

Nice desk

Edit: Or maybe not. I just spotted the BCM-10(?) sidecar. :)

Tell us more (if you want) about the signal path for the bass. I'm always interested how people choose to record electric bass and I didn't see a cabinet in the room, so that made me curious.

Sure. I’m a bass player myself in another band and love nerding out on this stuff.

Bass was recorded both amp and direct. The DI was a Ridge Farm Gas Cooker tube DI, and the amp was a reissue Ampeg Portaflex fliptop with the head and 1x15 cab separated. The cab was miced up in the basement. Not sure of the mics or pres used. I think a FET 47 of some kind?

I know there was some LA-2A going when tracking, but I’m not sure if that got printed.

Aaron usually plays live completely clean, but on one song the bass hit my EQD Bows before the amp for some extra grit (DI still clean-ish).

From what Sam said this setup is the go-to here and they’ll swap things out if the band requests it or the sound isn’t working, but for us it sounded great.

The Ric and P got equal time at 2 songs each. Live, Aaron only plays the P like a sensible person.
