No doubt! I'm cheap and will make a computer last a very long time, but at the same time once you get a new one, it's amazing how much better the whole thing can be.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Just jumping on this thread as I need a new MacBook. My 2012 pro is painful for work. And you can imagine even more so for demos.

For reference, at the minute I’m using a Scarlett 2i2 with their limited version of Ableton. I’ve got spitfire audio & native instruments installed, as well as a rock drum midi pack (- which I’ve never explored much to learn how to actually use & automate drum tracks over my demos).

A friend told me the Logic drums are super simple for adding loops. Noticed Logic Pro can be brought at the same time. Shall I pay £200 for that?

And the main bit: M2 MacBook Air? With 24GB of memory it’s £100 cheaper than the MacBook Pro. And doesn’t have the silly keyboard.

I’ll only ever be recording 6-8 tracks, mostly demos. And my work is all done in an internet browser. Aside from file space, which I can solve externally or in the cloud, M2 & 24GB sounds outrageous for what I need 8)
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

A bunch of refurbished M2 Mac Minis are up now. That's what I'd buy if I didn't buy a refurbished M1 Mini a year ago. :)

That's what I'm aiming for later this year, I reckon.

Until then, I've convinced myself that I can make my creaky 10 year old MBPwRetina run just as well by putting magic thermal paste in it.
