Dumped gold guard from 40th Anv. Squier JM
Replaced it with a shielded white pearloid(and some pure white PuP cover over my SD Vintage JM PuPs)
And now it has a new Wenge neck, as well.

Nice!
I have to be honest, I think the gold guard only works on a select few colors and I don't think that was one of them. LOL Good call on the white pearl!

Looks so much better honestly. Love the pearloid guard and the new neck! How does she sound?madmarcus1960 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 12:48 pmReplaced it with a shielded white pearloid(and some pure white PuP cover over my SD Vintage JM PuPs)

I didn't want to mess with anodized one and potential shielding so I went the other way
To OP - really nice one

Looks great - kind of a Miami Vice vibe now. How do you like the Wenge neck? Is it unfinished? Who made it?
Personally, I only like gold guards on the traditional 50s colours - sunburst (with the black covers/prototype look), blonde/white, and also on black (with black covers again).
I once bought a used Aztec Gold AV65 whose previous owner had stuck a gold guard on it...that was too much, man.

I'm working on cutting out a design in adhesive vinyl using my friend's Cricut (once I can get over her place). How have your stickers and whatnot been holding up with playing?

The ones that matter (on the upper part of the body) are the quality ones with a decent coating/varnish, so it's all ok so far. 3-5 hours of playing per day.

What about the ones on the pickguard between the switch and the lead circuit controls? Particularly that hexagon design one. Just wondering cuz that's where I'll be putting the vinyl on mine.distressed wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 11:53 amThe ones that matter (on the upper part of the body) are the quality ones with a decent coating/varnish, so it's all ok so far. 3-5 hours of playing per day.

I dumped the gold as well and went for black aluminum, and black plastics. I was going for the 1958 prototype look

Oh, wow! If you described that I would've probably been like "Ehhh... I bet it's OK." but in actuality that's just hawt!mattygbass wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 8:05 amI dumped the gold as well and went for black aluminum, and black plastics. I was going for the 1958 prototype look

Looks awesome! I've always loved the look of the prototype Jazzmaster. This is how the Desert Sand ones should have come from the factory.mattygbass wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 8:05 amI dumped the gold as well and went for black aluminum, and black plastics. I was going for the 1958 prototype look

I like the look of this guitar - very cool. Where did you source the black aluminum pickguard for this project?mattygbass wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 8:05 amI dumped the gold as well and went for black aluminum, and black plastics. I was going for the 1958 prototype look

I built more or less the exact same guitar. I sourced the pickguard from EY Guitar.bipedal2 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 1:39 pmI like the look of this guitar - very cool. We offsetters think alike, I guess. I too wanted to pay homage to the prototype/Tavares JM as soon as I saw the 40th anniversary Squier.
Here is mine, affectionately nicknamed "Data".
