Yeah there's some nice guitars there in the background. Hopefully he knows what those surgical tubing stands can do to a finish. I forgot to ask him what the story is with that psychedelic Mustang behind there. Looks kind've cool.

Let me know how the refin goes - I have been curious how easy those guitars are to strip since they are a "nitro with plasticizers"...I have no idea what that means, but I hope it doesn't mean it is as much of a  pain in the ass as a poly guitar is to strip.

Good luck on your project - shoreline would look great(with a gold guard!).

Yeah I'll be sure to do a progress thread. I'm curious myself about how easy the AVRI's are to strip. I've refinished several Highway One strats but the finishes on those were so paper thin I didn't bother with fully stripping, just scuffed them a bit and shot over the existing color. But those were all done as solid colors. With metallics I know it's better to shoot them over an opaque primer base so I'm going to fully strip the sunburst JM and do the complete refinish routine on it. I just ordered the Shoreline Gold, primer and sand & sealer from Reranch.

Just waiting on the JM... :P

That is an interesting bunch right there. My kind of oddballs...a lot of vintage knock-offs that would look sweet in my apartment. I see a Dakota Red Mustang/DS/MM peeking out behind the pseudo Ric...gets me all in a tizzy. I'd imediately grab for that one or the psychedellic Mustang before the JMs, to be honest. They'd be third and fourth;) Then maybe that Ampeg Dan Armstrong...

That's funny that you noticed that right off, too!  When I recieved my AVRI (same color and everything), it had the marks from one of those stands.  I was a little upset at first, but it adds character. 8)
yea i like to add character to a guitar. but I like to do it.
unfortunately though my first nick on the Jag was on the headstock. on the decal. on the 'U'. : >:(

If you like strats you will like JM's and Jags. I love the three of them.
Welcome aboard and you need to get a JM or Jag to have all of the Fender sounds.
