It's an honor to be among such cool people!

Knowledgeable too  ;D

I've been a long-time fan of the Fender offset guitars, particularly the Jazzmaster. I finally decided to build a Jazzmaster myself this past month and have been researching like crazy to make sure I build it exactly the way I want it. I've been lurking a bit on this forum during this time and it has been, by far, the most helpful.  My Jazzmaster will be something like a very weird, late 60's custom job. The build plan is as follows: Alder body with a black finish (already built). Neck constructed entirely of rosewood, large CBS-style headstock, binding and block inlay, built by Warmoth. Vintage repro pickups by Curtis Novak (who I've heard very good things about). White or Tortoise Shell pickguard. Modified mustang bridge. Everything else should be standard JM hardware. I was actually to make a final decision on pickguard/hardware/finish colors because of the Fender Offset Dressing Room, very cool stuff  8)

I'm from Portland, Oregon. I've been playing guitar for nearly 7 years. My 2 other guitars are a Washburn HB-15C with the humbucker replaced with a P-90,  Ibanez JTK2 (modified beyond recognition). I'm also a huge pedal freak, my board is the size of a guitar case, and yet I still catch myself thinking that I may need a bigger one.

I'm a big fan of Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Sigur Ros, Do Make Say Think, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Jim Hall, & Sonny Rollins. I'm also really into Classical music, Hard-Bop Jazz, Post-Rock, & traditional Japanese music.

Hopefully I will learn a lot more from Offset now that I am a member, and maybe you guys can help guide me through my build. At the least, I'll be sure to make a thread when I finish my Jazzmaster.
Thanks in advance for any help I'll get from you guys! To any Japanese members out there: よろしくお願いします!

Good luck on your JM project - you'll find plenty of people here knowledgeable about even some of the most minute offset details.

Hi there! Welcome to this great place.
Is this what you want your guitar to look like?

Yeah, pretty much!

I'm thinking the rosewood headstock might make it look too dark as a whole, so I may go with a Maple peghead veneer to offset it and make it look a little more normal. Then again, the white pickguard, knobs, & PU covers look pretty wicked with the rosewood headstock  :?

As far as the pickguard's concerned, Mint Green is still an option too. It all depends on if the hardware color scheme I get (cream/parchment, white, etc). You guys are the experts though and have actually seen JM color schemes in the flesh, so I'm interested to hear what you guys are partial too.

Gah, sorry about the pics of my gear not working, I edited the post to take out the links. I thought I has all that up and running but I guess uploader.ws doesn't like this site.  :(

If anybody is interested, I'll upload them again somewhere else, just let me know.

Or you could go with a black headstock, which would look standard issue from the front  :)

By the way, welcome to the site!  :)

thanks. i gave a shot, here are the links:
Washburn HB-15C: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318 ... F3578a.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318 ... F3584a.jpg

Ibanez JTK2: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318 ... CF3490.jpg http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318 ... CF3493.jpg
here's what the Ibanez looked like before, pretty ugly right: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318 ... 365f_3.jpg

and my pedalboard: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z318 ... ard008.jpg

i didn't know what a jazzmaster was when i bought that ibanez, as i had only just started and only knew about strats and teles. after i finished work on it, other guitarists told me it looked like a jazzmaster. my response was something to the affect of: " :-[ i don't play that much jazz, but thanks?? :-["

i looked on the web later and felt like a dope, but that the same time i was like  :o that's the guitar of my dreams!

There's nothing about that picture that I don't love.  :?

Nice idea about the matching headstock. Painting the headstock would actually be pretty easy, since that's all I would have to finish. Dunno about the all-gold decals for the dark headstocks though, I wonder if any of the other decals would look alright on it.
Oh well, I'll be mulling it over for the next week or so, my next paycheck somes on friday and that'll give me the money to order the neck. Can't wait!

Matching Headstocks are common on some custom colour (not sunburst) vintages and Japanese models
