Hello from The Netherlands

Hello all. I've been lurking in the shadows for months - reading about the intricacies of the Jazzmaster. Today I decided to sign-up and join the fun.

I'm still new to offsets - until recently having just one electric guitar since 1995, a 1981 Les Paul Custom. Earlier this year I found myself playing the few surf tunes I know on that guitar. It's a fine instrument but it doesn't pull off the surf sound. Not liking Strats, I thought I'd give a Squier Jazzmaster a try instead of (or perhaps before) spending serious money on a Fender Jazzmaster. So in March I bought a brand spanking new Squier Jazzmaster 40th Anniversary, online at Thomann. It was on sale for 350 euro (shipped) whereas they're normally between 550 and 600 euro. Buying guitars online can of course be a crap shoot. I expected to get an 'okay' beginners instrument that would need a lot of set-up work. I received a good instrument - that indeed needed a lot of set-up work. ;D

Not sure what happened, but in May I found myself building a Jazzmaster from templates. I finished it last week and am really happy with it (my first build). I will post a build thread but wanted to show the finished result here first. Can't think of a better introduction.

Here's a quick YouTube vid, playing The Mysterians by Messer Chups.
Home-made Jazzmaster... or Surfmaster.

Cool build! I like the neck flame and the unique headstock marking, is that a knot in the wood that you were able to accentuate and work into your design? Look forward to seeing more.

Thank you. It's a piece of spalted Hornbeam. The result of the router bit catching the grain and tearing out a big chunk of maple. My wife told me to 'own it'. :)

I'll start a project thread.
