Which part of surf? A lot of people assume the early 60s is where it started and stopped. There have been loads of changes along the way. It’s a wider genre than people give it credit. This is barely a drop in the ocean.
60s (Trad): Dick Dale, anything on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack
Instrumental bands that did surf also: the Ventures, the Shadows, the Atlantics
80s (2nd wave): Surf Kings (torch carriers embracing change), Jon and the Nightriders (mostly trad), Agent Orange (surf punk), Surf Raiders (changed everything)
90s + (3rd wave): Laika and the Cosmonauts, Langhorns, Mermen, Phantom Surfers, Los Straightjackets
Modern: Slacktone, the Madeira, Tomorrow men
Then there are tons of sub genres: Eleki, spy, hot-rod
