Ouff!! The Times, proper blast from the past "whatever happened to thames beat" Bought there Pure Lp on the strength of that track.. When I played it I thought eh! Is this the same band?
Yeah, Ed has been through quite a few incarnations, and, as an early adopter, I've heard a higher percentage of them than most, probably. His Creation-era Teenage Filmstars LPs would probably play best round here - shoegaze to outgaze Kevin Shields's shoes!

Teenage Filmstars

The hammond in the TF track appeals to my ex mod sensibilities.
Not familiar with the genra "shoegaze" so ill take your word for it

I think I only ever met one other person that liked them, off the top of my head.

Mary My Hope. If you’re from Atlanta and of a certain age, these dudes were important. They did a couple records on Silvertone, but BMG or somebody bought Silvertone out in the early ‘90s, and MMH is one of many good bands that got abandoned in the consolidation. They’ve all gone on to be otherwise successful separately, but I really liked them back then.

Fun fack: The first time I was ever right in front of a 100w Marshall with a RAT running into it was Mary My Hope opening for Jane’s Addiction in ‘89 at the Cotton Club. Gretsch 6120 > RAT > JMP. It affected me. I was 17 and had snuck in the back door, really had my eyes opened that night.

I can still hear it right now.

The Figgs. The pride of Saratoga Springs, NY. Just a fantastic Power-Pop band. They've been together since they were teenagers in the late 80s and they're still playing out and releasing records today.

Chad van Gaalen doesn’t get much recognition. He’s amazing.

Cranes
I guess someone cares enough to release their peel session on vinyl (unless they're paying for this themselves).

The Old 97's - not that much anymore (it's been a looooooong time since they released anything interesting + I listen to 80% less alt-country since I quit drinking) but loved them up through Fight Club and about half of Satellite Rides. They've had a long career but never got over - they can still fill 250 person clubs with fans like me who were listening to them in '97 but they never built up much beyond that.

Division of Laura Lee.

I've been a fan of theirs since I first heard them in 2003. I think they were marketed as some of of "garage rock" outfit, which did them no favors.

I like everything they've put out. I don't think they've ever come over to play in the States. I wish my income stream were more robust so I could just go on a trip to Sweden and catch them there somewhere.

Inspired me to dig out my copy of their debut later today.
FWIW I heard of them because of their Janes warmup slots in the UK, which I missed at the time because ticket supply did not match demand (I'm in Denmark now though).

Danish band Under Byen. They use traditional and non traditional instruments, but no guitars to make some very powerful music. Lyrics are in Danish, but you really got to hear them. It’s such high quality stuff, and there’s translations available.
I am not sure if they’re ever coming off of hiatus, but they put out 3 solid albums and a couple EPs. A good song to check out to get an idea of their sound would be “Det er mig der holder træerne sammen”. It is my signature on the forum. It’s incredible and the lyrics are quite good.

Speaking of Danish bands, there is a band called Kashmir, who go back to the mid to late 90s and were on the go until about a decade ago. English lyrics and some killer riffs.
A good song to check out would be “Surfing the warm Industry” from their album Zitilites.
Det er mig der holder traeerne sammen.

Lois Prima. A classic nobody seems to remember. If I may, young people, on a date night, let me suggest go Italiano, and play some Louis (Leo) Prima before and after. You'll love it.

I want to add the Russian band Glintshake. They’re really good and I haven’t seen much mention of them outside of certain circles. They sing in Russian, which limits their accessibility, but they’re so good I recommend hearing them at least.
Here’s a live performance complete with a Jazzmaster in the hands of the singer:

Glintshake - Мой новый Стиль (My New Style)
