Re: The Replacements-Tim “Let it Bleed” edition
I am really liking the new mix...unfortunately the album + CDs is £99.99 in the UK!

Maybe they will eventually release the 12" on its own.

Re: The Replacements-Tim “Let it Bleed” edition
I looked a few weeks back & it was only available at the us label site for $90, so £100 isn’t terrible. Glad it’s available in though Rough Trade can be 10%-15% more than smaller stores for higher priced stuff. Fingers crossed it’ll be in a winter sale as I can’t imagine it’ll be a huge seller, especially with the different artwork.zhivago wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 11:23 pmI am really liking the new mix...unfortunately the album + CDs is £99.99 in the UK!

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: The Replacements-Tim “Let it Bleed” edition
I'll keep an eye out for it, just in case the price drops a bit...the thing is I really have no interest in the extra stuff that come with it...I just want to have the album by itself to listen to (and I already have the two vinyl Replacements box sets from a while back).

^ Yeah, just the new mix of the original tunes is enough. Even when it’s a good idea, labels (and all companies) gotta turn it into a maximum-profit situation.

I did end up pre-ordering it even though it was painful. I agree the extras don’t much interest me but I love box sets and haven’t bought one in a long time.

I'm comfortable with being in the minority on the way the new mix sounds, I'm glad that others are enjoying it! Still excited to hear the rest of the album
edit: listened to it couple more times with some nice headphones, it is starting to grow on me

Anyone else give it the full listen yet? I think the new mix works better on the quiet songs, but I'm undecided on the full-out rockers.

I’m listening now and I love all of it.
I’m very attached to the original record, but I’m really happy to be able to hear it like this, too.

I'm listening now at work. I listened to the rockers loud on my drive to work. I liked them much more. Little Mascara was awesome and Bastards of Young finally got the mix it deserved. I'm liking it as I listen through the album too.

Re: The Replacements-Tim “Let it Bleed” edition
Yeah, it really is. The sound is great and a complete improvement of the original. I had read an article about the new mix and it described the older mix as having too much reverb yet at the same time sounding two dimensional, and that's pretty accurate to me. This new mix sounds realistic and natural.
You can hear what a good bass player Tommy Stinson was for the first time, and the drums sound great... it's an all around winner.
However, upon listening to it, I realize that I never really liked Tim all that much. It's got probably the single best Replacements' song in "Left of the Dial" but it also has an awful lot of just out and out weak songs. "Dose of Thunder" and "Lay it Down Clown" are just plain bad songs, "I'll Buy" is very weak and "Swinging Party" basically is also.
I always thought "Bastards of Young" was very overrated as well, it's supposed to be some big Gen X anthem but I never really got a coherent narrative out of it and the music is pretty plodding.
It's funny, because they had better songs that they didn't put on the album, a not uncommon situation with the Replacements.
The remix is great, and I'd be happy to have something similar done with Let It Be, which I always thought is the only really flawless Replacements' album, although Pleased To Meet Me comes pretty close and honestly the original Stink! is great also.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Late to the party - and I haven't heard the remix - but part of the replacements 'thing' has always been their dysfunctional relationship with sounding good

Re: The Replacements-Tim “Let it Bleed” edition
You think? I always thought their stuff sounded pretty good. I never even really objected to Tim all that much. I mean they aren't Steely Dan or anything but I never had any objections.
Seems like a lot of other people did, though. I read an interview with Jim Dickinson who produced Pleased To Meet Me and he was commenting how he wished he had a Precision Bass instead of the Rickenbacker bass used on that album, which didn't have the low end.
Make of that what you will- but, after hearing how the bass was made to be more prominent on the Let It Bleed remix I'm a believer. It's worth listening to that remix just to hear how great the rhythm section sounds. It's a very, very big difference- you'll see.

Re: The Replacements-Tim “Let it Bleed” edition
I watched the little video they put out about the mixing with Ed and Bob Mehr, and apparently there weren't any room mics used on the drums when they recorded? Which seems insane, but also puts some things in focus...Larry Mal wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 10:52 amYou think? I always thought their stuff sounded pretty good.
