Desert Island Discs

Post by sal paradise » Sat May 20, 2023 1:09 am

Have you ever tried it? 8 tracks.

I spent a day having anxiety attacks and I think I could get to 16 songs reasonably: 8 from my childhood & 8 from my teenage years. Wow, it’s awful.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I think if I was invited on (pretty unlikely, I know) I wouldn't overthink it too much. If you have hundreds or thousands of songs that could qualify as "favourite" a lucky dip is the only way to go.

Songs would be difficult - but albums wouldn't for me. Numbers one to three off the top of my head would be:

A Love Supreme - John Coltrane
Physical Graffitti - Led Zeppelin
Sabotage - Black Sabbath

Sorry for messing up the question, LOL
Mike B
"We never play anything the same way once!" - Shelly Manne

Three great albums though, for sure.

I cooked one up real quick. Here is a Spotify link for folks who do that.

Here are the Youtube versions:

The Stone Roses - Standing Here
Idaho - A Sound Awake
Fugazi - Target
Television - Guiding Light
Felix Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64 - Issac Stern: violin, Seiji Ozawa conducting the Boston Symphony Orchestra
Beach House - Myth
Talking Heads - Houses In Motion
Herbie Hancock - Watermelon Man

Some of these are partially sentimental picks, but I think the overall theme is music that speaks to me on a fundamental level.

1: Undeclinable Ambuscade "7 Years"
2: The B52's "Love Shack"
3: Descendents "Everything Sucks"
4: Basia Bulat "Gold Rush" (Wood & Wires live version"
5: Radiohead "Street Spirit (Fade Out)"
6: Safe Francis "Inherited Scars"
7: Mogwai "Christmas Steps"
8: Low "July"

This was very hard and could easily change next week but I'd say at least 4 of them couldn't be knocked off the list, ever.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

This is a rubbish playlist, some of you thought to put some jazz or classical or soul. Didn’t think about those days. Gutted I couldn’t fit Sam Cooke in here, think I like it though.

Hmm. I'll revisit this a little bit. But, I never get tired of hearing this song:

Let's Build A Car
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.
