Mimi has passed away.
There's a handful of voices that could express so much.
Mimi Parker of Low has passed away and I cannot express how sad I feel.

I realise this was mentioned in the other mega thread, but I think Mimi deserves her own thread here on OSG.
I was lucky enough to have seen Low play many times, and their performance at the Union Chapel many years ago still is in my top 5 shows of all time.
RIP Mimi.

I am also deeply, deeply saddened by this. Low have been an integral part of my musical tastes and influences for so long now. Her voice, with its haunting natural tremolo, will be sorely missed.
I haven't been this sad about a musician loss since Prince.
Going to go wallow in the utter beauty that is "Things We Lost in the Fire"
RIP Mimi

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

So sad to hear this. Low are one of my favourite bands, and I've seen them live so many times. The synergy between them was something magical.
RIP Mimi

This is really sad to hear. She was a very influential musician to me in her approach to harmony and leaving space for other things to happen and had the purest, most natural voice.

Sad news. I was slower to discover Low than many, but man, she/they did some incredible stuff. I'm going to go back and listen to their last album, I didn't realize what they must have been dealing with while they wrote and recorded that.

I'll admit to knowing absolutely nothing by them but my Facebook news feed is now full of friends expressing their deepest sadness. It's better late than never to start listening to them, I guess.
That last live clip was great!

There's such a fantastic back catalogue to look through...you have a lot of choice. My favourite LP is Things We Lost in the Fire (and is a great starting point right in the middle of, arguably, their best era) - it's beautifully recorded, full of ups and downs and switches effortlessly between truly hauntingly intimate and soaring, blossoming arrangements with strings. Secret Name is great, as is Ones and Sixes. In fact, there's very few duds, but they did ebb and flow through styles so you might find an album that resonates more for you.PorkyPrimeCut wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 9:55 amI'll admit to knowing absolutely nothing by them but my Facebook news feed is now full of friends expressing their deepest sadness. Mimi absolutely deserves her own thread. I have never felt sad about a musician's passing as I do this one. This has been my favorite band for 25 years.
Glad I took my daughter to see them in April, since now this can never happen again.

Re: Mimi has passed away.
The only times I've felt something when an entertainer/artist died was when Bowie and Robin Williams passed, and it's the same for Mimi Parker. Low has always been an amazing band, they were doing some of their best work, and both Mimi and Alan appeared to me to be genuinely decent folks. I had bad feeling when they canceled their recent tour dates. Saw them three or four times and I feel fortunate to have caught the last tour and heard them in person for what is now the final time.

Listening this morning to HEY WHAT on my walk to work was a very different experience with yesterday's news still in my head. The jarring and abrasive music coupled with their soaring voices was a fucking hard, hard listen. It makes a lot more sense now.
Fuck.
Fuck.
