Colour me interested. i got into TMV first largely because of my age - I dig them and enjoyed circling back and discovering ATDI subsequently. I even didn't mind Antemasque...

TMV are where it's at for me. De-Loussed is probably a top 15 album for me and I love Omar's playing. Every time I listen to them I hear something new in his playing and his arrangements. If the new material is in the ballpark of De-Loussed or Frances I'll be a happy man.
I sort of did the same, I’d heard one-armed scissor and loved it but never really looked more into at the drive in at the time. Then when the Mars Volta came about I loved them and so I worked backwards too and discovered more of at the drive in. I actually really liked antemasque too as something totally different for them.
Then again I also love Omar’s solo stuff, especially his earlier ones so maybe that just shows where my musical leanings are with regards to those guys.

I liked their oft forgotten weird dub band, De Facto.

I just finished listening to Relationship of Command, just to remind myself of how it sounds. It's been a long, long time!

I forgot how much of a Fugazi twang At The Drive-In had.

I liked de facto a lot too. I love the variety of styles those guys managed with all their various projects, and I feel like the Mars Volta was just a combination of all of them.

New track has been released by the way for anyone interested. If I had to liken it to any of their previous stuff I’d say it sounds like it could have been recorded for Frances the Mute. But really, it is it’s own thing yet again.

Finally got around to listening to the track. It's definitely more restrained than their early work but there's some cool stuff there. The chord progression is doing something I can't quite put my finger on and the drumming has a cool swing to it. The overall Latin groove to the song sounds great. I may be crazy, but the way it's mixed and the overall production reminds me of Steely Dan, which isn't something I thought I'd ever say about TMV.

They put on one of the greatest live shows ever! I saw them around 2006ish. They walked on stage, didn’t say a word, proceeded to play for an hour and a half straight, each song led into the next, not a single moment of silence, just a full on aural assualt.

As said previously, you can listen to one of their songs 100 times and still notice something different everytime. The layering is so dense, there are often subliminal melodies implying things, often mixed so low that you can never quite tell what’s going on.

That said, I think i have more of an emotional connection ATDI. Relationship of Command is one of a very short list of perfect albums. I can listen to it start to finish and never be tempted to skip a song. All bangers.

One of the best shows I'd seen, possibly 2004? Had one of the yellow tees that probably wouldn't fit round my chin now!

Nice, I’m really hoping they announce some Uk dates soon too. I’ve seen them twice before and both times they were amazing.
I’m really interested to see who’ll be in the live band.

It’s out! What do we think?

I'm quite surprised.

I really didn't like the track they released a few weeks back but some of what I've heard just now is quite brilliant. I'm liking Blank Condolences and Flash Burns From Flashbacks in particular, the latter of which has some incredible drumming on it.

It's kinda chilled out, loungy, snake-hipped pop & I can see it being a hit. Some of it could work really well on a dark, network TV show like Euphoria, I reckon.
