Eddy Current - I Don't Wanna Play No More was like the first riff I ever properly fell in love with

I'll go ahead and name the elephant in the room---Smoke On The Water. Yes, it's a cliche, and over played, but it really is still the king of riffs and still so heavy. They basically built THE WHOLE SONG on it. Also Blackmore's use of of articulation in his solos is unmatched.

The Kinks - All Day And All of the Night

*arguable as a chord progression or a riff, but I stand by my claim. :freako: :)
The Kinks - The Fall – The Bad Seeds - Spacemen 3 - The Gories - Royal Trux

In modern 'heavy' music I am quite partial to Red Fang - Prehistoric Dog - there's a LOT of Melvins competing in my head with it though.

Often forgotten is riffs that are quiet/clean. For that I would submit that Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out) is probably one of the most beautifully simple, yet aurally stunning, examples you could hope to find.

For anything funky I'd probably vote with The Meters - Cissy Strut - although there' many others to choose from

Boomer rock it'd go to any one of the well-known Led Zeppelin riffs. They're all bangers.
I was hoping someone would say Cissy Strut.

I'd never call Richie Blackmore underrated per se, but he definitely isn't in as many conversations as he deserves to be.

Disappearer -Sonic Youth starting at 2:30 like 4:00
I was racking my brain until I saw this post. Disappearer is my favourite from Goo and the harmonic part at the beginning of that section gives me chills.
Cinderella’s Big Score has a few deadly riffs in it as well.

I don't know if this is a riff or a hook, but Broken E Strings intro part gets stuck in my head for days

So many really. But I never tire of this...

Kyuss Gardenia. Was always a good track to test the worth of a stereo.
