Tough crowd here. I am not a RHCP fan and only know the hits, but this sounds like a perfectly-ok RHCP track to me.

The lyrics are atrocious - even for RHCP standards - and why is he singing like he’s in an Irish pub??

Hard pass for me.
Unlistenable garbage. Did something happen to him to start singing like that? There's some strange shit in the live clip posted too.

I think he found out that some lyricists can write stream of consciousness lyrics, and so he thought he could do that, but fuck, he can't.
Stream of diarrhoea I think. Word salad.
"I don't know why we asked him to join the band 'cause the rest of us don't like country music all that much; we just like Graham Lee."

I like RHCP and I'd go along with that. This song isn't their best, but it's not something I'd actively avoid either. The fake Irish accent is weird though.

I'll tap my foot if Police Helicopter comes on the radio, but the ballad-y type stuff like this they've been doing for a while just makes me run the other way.

It kind of seems like the same old stuff....even with John back. Maybe Josh got out just in time....not bad or good just typical....

I heard an interview with him and he said they literally had 40-50 songs this time round so he couldn't edit lyrics. He just had too much to do.

He's a terrible singer, even worse live. But I really do love some early stuff like Freakey Styley, Mother's Milk and ending with BSSM.

This is mostly my take too. The only albums I owned was Mother's Milk and BSSM. Other than that I have had a radio hits knowledge of their catalog. I didn't even know this was the return of Frusciante. The vocal affectation is distracting. Subject wise I think I detect Covid references, but they are really oblique. Musically those three guys make a heck of a trio. I appreciate Flea's more restrained and tasteful playing. Frusciante is one of those players you can recognize from just a few chords. Nice arranging from quiet at the beginning to loud and intense at the end. RHCP fans should be pleased.
