so i think i'm gonna take some shade for this one but i realised famous last words - my chemical romance doesn't make me cry but does bring a bit of a tear to my eye.

This is cringey I know, but for me it's "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis.

I had a best friend when I was teenager. She was also an ex-girlfriend. We were inseparable, and tried really hard to have a normal friendship, but instead spent four years or so unhealthily breaking each other's hearts. I remember being very hungover on a Saturday, feeling tender from the previous night's rejections, and this came on some daytime TV show, fucking, The Generation Game or something, and I felt hopeless and just went.

EDIT to add: Possibly Blue Valentines and Ruby's Arms by Tom Waits. Both hit me in the same feels and remind me of the same experiences, but it's all long enough ago and both feel like different perspectives on the same relationship.

Kate Rusby - "My Young Man". As I'm the grandson of a miner who lost a leg in a work accident and my gran had to look after him for years. And because I'm a Yorkshireman and well... brass bands and s..t.

Cigarettes After Sex - "Cry". Because I've not always been a good husband.
Glasvegas "My Cheating Heart". Ditto.
No Doubt "Don't Speak" - which my ex had on for months before we finally broke up. And we're still best friends. 25 years since we split up and we still hang out. Luckily her and my wife get on really well.

I don’t know if any songs make me properly sob, but Triple Dog Dare by Lucy Dacus tends to bring a tear to my eye towards the end.

I entirely agree with this. Super powerful having a crowd of 30k-ish people singing it when I saw them a couple of weeks ago.

Totally the same for me. I can't listen to any of the cat trilogy songs as they make me want to cry :fp:

My wife has banned them while in her presence. So that pretty much nixes my tattoo idea of "Let it rest, all you can't change, let it rest and be done."

I forgot how "Running Up That Hill" can make me cry.

Not quite make me cry, but Burger Queen by placebo always gives me butterflies and I’m sure has on occasion brought me to tears. There was a time I couldn’t listen to that entire album for a couple of years because of the emotion and memories it held for me.

Same goes for The Same Deep Water as Me by the Cure. Beautiful.

And the thing they both have in common, the Fender Bass vi. That’s where my love and obsession with that instrument began, before I even knew where those tones were coming from.

The last track that put genuine tears in my eyes was "Disappearing," by Low on "Hey What." A very simple song but the chorus sections are like choirs beaming in from deep space, just pure beauty. I can't think of anyone who does what that band does.

Placebo is another one for me, Drag Behind off the Meds album reminds me of a lot of teenage sadness.

Follow The Cops Back home does that same thing for me. But the whole Meds album is awesome, my second favourite after Without You I’m Nothing

Totally get it.....when they choose to rock out and not go postpunk...they were very good.
