R.I.P Mick Rock...

Post by PorkyPrimeCut » Fri Nov 19, 2021 1:29 am

Surely he's worthy of his own thread!

I obsessed over his Syd Barrett prints for years & continue to find images that are new to me & still hold so much intrigue & mystique...

Thanks, Mick!

I agree Mick deserves a thread.

RIP...he took so many iconic shots. A very important figure, for sure!

I didn't know that the photo of Lou Reed on the cover of Transformer was taken by Mick Rock.

I've always meant to get me one of those books of the Syd pics (I think there were a couple) but never quite got round to it. Great shots of a special moment in time, those, as are many of his others.

I found a copy of Psychedelic Renegades : Photos of Syd Barrett a few years ago. It's a decent sized hardback book with great colour & black'n'white pics throughout.

One of these days I'll get a proper large framed print of an image from the Wetherby Mansions set.

There's a kind of thrift edition of Psychedelic Renegades I came across on eBay a while back as well. I think it came with a 7" single and was itself a square format paperback book about 7"-8". Originally more affordable, but all bets are off at this stage.

It's slightly mind-blowing to think that MR was able to get Syd to sign a load of copies of Psychedelic Renegades (he signed them simply "Barrett") well into his wilderness years. Not sure when it came out, but it can't have been any earlier than the '80s, surely. Kind of flies in the face of the popular image of the isolated, reclusive Barrett perpetuated by his old bandmates.
