Come to think of it, Dave Grohl is probably the youngest/last active artist producing original music who could be called a "rock god" or "rock star," and his most influential album was this one, 30 years ago.
I've said it before but it's always worth repeating. That incessant smiler Grohl has been making money puppeteering the decaying corpse of Cobain for far too long now and needs to stop. Please stop, Dave. Please.
I kinda agree here too. As much as I dislike the guy, perhaps the early Foo stuff was so unapologetically 90s that I give him a pass for that era. Anything beyond is just tired.

Also, Nirvana was super influential to me as a 12-14 year old. Like many of you, I no longer listen to them not want to. I jumped onto the Nirvana train right around the time “old band markering” really started hitting. Early 00s. At the time, none of my friends were listening to them nor had even heard of them so I felt pretty unique. I wore their CDs out. Then, the marketing of them never stopped. Not even today. With that said, I don’t dislike Nevermind nor Nirvana, but I’m quite literally tired of it. Would not mind have a Cobain jag though

Dave Grohl is a super nice guy, an actual sweetheart. You all have no business calling him a dick. I personally hate all of his music (and Kurt’s), but he’s a nice guy and deserves whatever rewards he’s getting.

That has been my perception also. I haven't seen him really do anything dickish to anyone. Normally I just see him going out and interacting with people and fans. He has been sort of put in this position where he is looked at like some sort of statesman of rock. Not sure if he wanted that or enjoys it, but he always seems to be a pretty easy going guy that has a lot of fun.

Who would say Dave Grohl is a dick?

I mean, he entered into a drum battle with an eleven year old girl that he lost with grace and humor, and he later responded by having her come and play with his band:

I mean, watch that and tell me that the guy is a dick. He's a great guy, a hardworking guy, and I can't imagine who on earth would say a bad thing about him as a human being, whether you like his music or not.

Kurt even said the same thing in an interview I have heard a few times. He said Dave is one of the most likeable well adjusted person he had ever met and that everybody loves him.

He also said if he had a choice of bringing John Bonham back to life and Dave, he would choose Dave to drum for him.

Dave Grohl is a decent human being. Maybe the ones calling him a dick need are the ones being one?

I was huge into Nirvana back in the 90s, but i no longer listen to them by choice. They were good at the time. Haven't really listened to them much since... Well, the 90s. :jacked:

ok. so i wanna bring up something about this album as well. can we talk about how good the drum sound on that album and how so much of the drum sound that prevailed in the 90's was based on that? i mean when i think of 90's drum sounds, i think of tama/pearl/yamaha kits, little bit of room reverb, HUGE fucking toms, dry cymbals and a punchy as hell snare. i feel there were bands doing it before them, but so much of drum sounds after that seemed to be along those lines.

You know, I just listened to "Lounge Act", it holds up. It holds up.

Right? Every time I listened to Nevermind, that one stood out as being a little different. It felt more complex if that makes sense? Mostly that bassline and the syncopation I think.

Good choice with Lounge Act. That tended to be my favourite off Nevermind too.

I still have a Nevermind poster on my wall. I agree with the few posts above this one that Lounge Act is the best song on the record, possibly because it is not overplayed as most of the other tracks.

I don't think I like a single Foo Fighters song. I read a recent interview with Grohl and he was like "yeah some people dismiss me as goofy and happy and a showman. This is what I want to be. I saw the other side and I don't want to be that." It was a simple statement but it made sense. He seems genuinely nice -- it is difficult to orchestrate that many nice gestures if you are actually a dick.

I finally got around to listening to the Devonshire mixes from the 20th anniversary box set.

Some tracks really needed some work (I’m looking at you, Territorial Pissings) and the Andy Wallace mixes definitely sound more epic. But Vig’s mixes sound more “natural” and more like other Nirvana recordings.

I’m glad it was released as it was, but being able to hear these rougher mixes breathes some new life into the album for me.
