The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Re: new VU doc
Big nod to all of the above. I'm usually pretty averse to music docs but thoroughly enjoyed myself even without really taking away anything new. On the other hand, it converted Mrs. N from a listener-in-passing into an obsessee, which has been fun to connect over. I thought for the most part Cale got a fair shout, and it was nice to hear from Moe.Telliot wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 11:46 amAgreed. Although there wasn’t a whole bunch of new info for me I thought it was pretty well done. I kind of wished they did a better job of talking about the early solo careers (post VU) of the various members (they did a little, but I would have liked more), and I also wish it had been a little less Lou Reed-centric. It felt like they were really focused on him and Warhol, or at least that was the impression I was left with. But overall I thought it was good.UlricvonCatalyst wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 9:01 amJust watched it and found it thoroughly engaging. Didn't learn a whole lot I hadn't already read about/seen/heard, but two hours immersed in the world of The Velvets is always two hours well spent in my book.

Watched the doc over the weekend, along with the Moe Tucker drumming doc linked higher in this thread.
Very interesting to see some archival footage used in both films, you really see how a established filmmaker with some hollywood money can clean it up nicely, against how a normal youtuber has to use some low quality copy !
Like most people here I didn't learn anything specially new about the band, but the vibe of the period was nicely transmitted, it's obvious but this is absolultely not the the same thing as reading a few books and some wikipedia history ! Great editing too. Always a bit sad to see the contrast between the cool people in the late 60's and then seeing how well or not they have aged, for those who are still on this earth. John Cale seems to have an history of unfortunate haircuts/beards

Re: new VU doc
My friend who used to cut my hair was always asking me for photographic examples of how I wanted it cut and on more than one occasion I used later period JC as my reference. Never wore a beard, though. Filthy things!
