I know Schecter makes a, shall we say polarizing, Utra Bass VI model
i think the UltraCure models have gone out of production, but they're still offering the Robert Smith UltraCure XII, currently marked way down:

we should have a poll on weird signature models: would you rather have the Cobain Jag-Stang, the Smith UltraCure, both or neither :) i kind of regret never getting an UltraCure when they came out, although a friend of did and said it felt huge

ps. Cure 4ever
in the coldest night / huddled 'round the dying embers

Schecter guitars make me sad somehow (not in a sullen Cure way, unfortunately). I do wonder how our perception of the Cure would have changed if they'd gone with Fender over Schecter. Would there have been a Robert Smith signature JM, later to appear as a Squier model (e.g. Mascis)? Would their records have been better?

Maybe I am just conflating Schecter, Cleopatra Records, and the stubborn desperation of faded rockers.

Schecter makes some great guitars--I've had a couple, they were top notch in terms of assembly--but the brand has to carry the weight of a heavy association with some of the less cool metal areas. I suspect more people know them for those type of guitars then the old partscaster/hotrodder Fender knockoff models. I'm not sure Cure fans really care what the band plays and props to Robert Smith for getting what he wanted, but that said, those Ultra models he's associated with are kind of weird and have Schecter's yuckiest headstock design.

What’s the beef with Bamonte? I wonder how it works in The Cure when you get sacked. Big buyout, enough to cover you for years? I’m guessing most of the band outside of Smith and Gallup are contract/on salary with whatever song writing credits they may pick up.

I remember reading two decades ago that Robert Smith intended for Cut Here to be The Cure's last new song.

It would have been quite a thing to go out on top like that. I still think it's one of the best songs they've ever written.

Never thought much of Perry but after seeing/hearing Reeves playing I really appreciate Perry not adding anything to the Cure.

I read sometime ago that Robert credited anyone who was in the studio. In an interview with Boris he mentioned Robert took 50% of royalties & let the rest of the band split the remaining half which he considered generous as a drummer.

Yes Robert is generous with writing credits, though all the band did write. Lol wrote quite a few classic lyrics for The Cure..like All Cats Are Grey. Porl wrote Fight. Robert and Boris wrote Burn. Simon wrote the music for Lovesong. ETC...Perry wrote some. They all played a part. The two 'solo' Robert Smith album with no other writers credited were head on the door and The top.
