Tom's an insanely good guitarist and I can see a wave of new guitarists inspired by the kind of stuff he did emerging eventually. I love a lot of RATM's output also.
There was this guy called Jonny Greenwood ;D
I don't understand putting Tom and Jonny in the same sentence, maybe it is a joke I'm not getting. xD I'd put Tom and Matt from Muse in the same sentence, Matt Bellamy has mentioned RATM as a big influence and I think it shows in their early stuff. Matt's guitar work on their first few albums is miles ahead of Tom's but then is just my opinion, again RATM ain't my cup of tea. xD
If OSG has tort me anything...

RATM > Radiohead anyway.

Because he is just influenced by him despite the ultimate music being different (but their other influences are jazz, hiphop, classical so no matter)
Tele with killswitch, extensive whammy, doing 'anti-guitar' glitchy solos.
I wonder if the interview i read it in exists.
In the era of first two albums, maybe third.

i'm always kinda shocked muse was the band that got big from that era...... oceansize were way better.

I did like Muse and RATM for the ages of 11-13. I never got into oceansize. Muse were OTT about everything and admittedly can see why that gained popularity. But often compared to radiohead? They sound more like queen gone a bit wrong.

Thought the first half of Muse's Black Holes album was good but the Queen comparison totally makes sense. That said, biggest Muse diss I ever heard was someone calling them the "thinking man's Radiohead."

I rode in an elevator with him once. He seemed nice enough.

For all you acoustic folk music fans, check out Tom Morello Night Watchman acoustic folk stuff. Pete Seger, and Bob Dylan stuff....PLUS Tom can actually sing. He sings on all the tracks...sounds like a baritone country singer...good stuff.

Love Rage, love Tom's playing in the context of it, but otherwise i don't really care. he's not a guitarist that excites me the same way others do, despite being very original. to me, Rage was always about the groove, and i love Timmy C and Brad Wilk's chemistry as a rhythm unit.

Liked RATM for a while there, could not stand his solo stuff. Now I don't like any of it.

Early RATM lives in the same sphere as early Limp Bizkit to me. I'd never say I was 'a fan'...but they sure as shit have some absolute bangers that are hard not to get your jam on to after a few beers.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?
