You know, we get older, it's hard to stay nice and trim, so I don't begrudge Robert Smith any deterioration on that front. He may even been in good shape considering his drink and drug intake. But his hair these days, what the hell is going on there? It genuinely looks like a rat's nest. I can't tell if he's lost hair or gone bald and is exploring some sort of goth combover. If you see a shot from the back it's even more frightening.
Sadly he doesn't look after himself. And yes the hair has quit The Cure..theres all sort of comb-over trickery going on to try to disguise it.

I dont know what happened but Robert used to be a man of great taste(or so I thought) but that seemed to disappear by the end of the 90's.

the smiths are a good singles band but the cure are a better albums band. marrs guitar lines are great obvs but a lot of the smiths production is really tepid. I find the cure a lot more enduring. Also not having a far right bellend as a singer is a plus.

Ha ha, just seen this old thread... Gene were at one of the best gigs I ever went to. My mates dragged me to Polly Harvey at the Powerhouse in Islington and Gene were the support band. I think PJH was on her second single at that point. It was a pretty small venue - bar with a long room type set up. It was really clear that Gene had great tunes and were better than most but... Then PJH, who I wasn't a fan of, opened the dressing room door to come on. I wasn't that bothered about her at that point and only went as were on the guest list, but you could feel her presence on the stage before her body followed on. As a neutral, it was truly weird to feel that kind of charisma. It's not like there was any huge anticipatory buzz in the crowd or anything, it was simply someone with an astonishing presence entering the room. I've never come across it with any other artist except maybe Patti Smith, who I felt was only a good slogan short of starting a revolution!

I love both the smiths and the cure. Historically I prefer the Cure, I play them more than any other band on spotify aside of Sonic Youth even now.
I guess I feel like if you're going to talk these two you need to throw Depeche Mode into the fray as well, I listen to them a spot more than the Smiths, same with Echo and the Bunnymen and Jesus and the Mary Chain.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.
