Fugazi Appreciation Thread

Post by SadFuzz » Tue Nov 27, 2018 12:45 pm

This probably already exists but hey.

Over the past month I've had 13 Songs and Repeater in constant rotation. I'm loving it.
I already listened to Minor Threat and respect MacKaye greatly, but adding Picciotto, Canty and Lally brings it to another level. Rhythmically, lyrically, melodically great. The fact Ian and Guy played pretty much guitar into amp for most of their career really makes me think about my own gear and what I can do with less.
Great band...

Seen them over 20 times! One of the bands that made a huge impact on me as a youngster and stayed with me thru adulthood. Steady diet of nothing might be my favorite.

I saw them many moons ago, back in Leeds, when they were touring Repeater. Definitely one of the more memorable gigs from back then. Small & packed venue. Mental crowd. Intense, focused, tight band. I remember Mr McKaye stopping the gig halfway through because some dickhead at the front was trying to start a fight.
I bought a knock-off poster after the gig for a pound that I still have, rolled up with a load of others, destined for frames when I have big enough walls.
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

My favorite Fugazi memory is seeing them on the Red Medicine tour in St. Louis (at Missisippi Nights).

It was a fucking ripping show, but the best part was Bed For The Scraping. You know that high whiny guitar part? Well that’s Guy TWO HANDED TAPPING on his Ric. Definitely blew some minds, mine included. You can sort of make it out later in this video.

Then later Guy busted out the oboe!

I like repeater, kill taker, and red medicine. I listen to rites of spring a lot more. Never cared that much for minor threat.

It is amazing the dynamics they were able to get from just a guitar and an amp.
They were really without equal, not just angry but so focused and thoughtful.

If everybody's not aware, the Fugazi Live Series has a ton of shows up for purchase, including two mentioned in this thread:
1995-10-08 - Mississippi Nights
1990-09-12 - Irish Centre

I was lucky enough to see them in Lexington, right before SDON came out.

Man, I haven't thought about Mississippi Nights for a while!
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

What an amazing band. Agreed - live they were insanely good.

Possible the greatest gig photo ever.

The place put on decade after decade of legendary shows... what else do you want it to do?

Be laid out better and have less dickish security mainly, but it’s gone now apparently.

Am I the only one who opened this thread expecting fake guitars?
