24 Gone. They released one album (The Spin) in 1990 and it is perfect.

Noah & The Whale.
one of those bands i heard one song of, loved it but never dug deeper.
It’s worth it. 2nd album is literally 11 songs of Charlie Fink’s heartbreak about his breakup with Laura Marling.

Album 3 is disgustingly clever in songwriting, lyrics & pop catchiness. I totally get why people hate that album, because it’s a masterclass in getting into your head.

Their fourth album just grows and grows and grows on you. The musicianship & song structure. They do something to me :D

Paolo Conte. "If you like Tom Waits, you'll like him," is how Fuscia Dunlop introduced my to him and his music.

A lot of bands i like I’ve never met someone else who listens to them but the one band I like that gets a negative reaction is the armed. Every time I bring it up people visibly cringe…

The Crocodiles
I got LPs "Crimes Of Passion", "Endless Flowers" and "Sleep Forever" and take them out of my shelf on a regular basis.
Crocodiles - Mirrors (Sleep Forever)

Superwolf/Superwolves
I also really dig Will Oldham/Bonnie "Prince" Billie's other Stuff and I'm a sucker for Matt Sweeney's guitar playing (also featured on Stephen Malkmus' latest record "Traditional Techniques".

Superwolf - My Home is the Sea

God damn it would help if there were some kind of description with all these band names. Or even better, a YT link. I'm not going to YT every one of these, and I'd probably hear the wrong tracks if I did.

The Brentwoods - ultra ultra lo-fi Ramonesey-blues chord progressions with a highly energetic female vocalist, and a BADASS farfisa. One LP and five 7"es in the 90s.

See how easy that was?

I have two that are very minor. People like them, but they don't seem to have the broader appreciation that related acts seem to have:

1. Quasi - AKA the best former married couple duo band of all time (eat it stripes). Janet Weiss is an amazing singer who only gets show cased in this project. Sam Coomes is the superego to Eliot Smith's id. You can hear how they influenced one another the way two brothers will share mannerisms. Keys through a guitar amp is such an underated primary unstrument. But despite being on Sub Pop, they never seem to have gotten the broad support that Eliot Smith, Sleater Kinney, Stephen Malkmus or even Wild Flag got.

2. The Band- I know I know I know. They are very famous. However, amongst the great boomer explosion of classic rock bedrock, they are virtually unknown. People on the street know Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Beatles, Stones, Joni Mitchell and every damn one else who played the Last Waltz, but the average person hasn't even heard of let alone listened to The Band. Which is a shame because they are the best band in history and anyone who disagrees is wrong.

I love the Band. Their 2nd album is in my top 5, and rock of ages is one of the best live albums ever. The albums quickly took a dive after stage fright though, started to become a parody of themselves. Still, what a bunch of musicians.

Richard Manuel was the lead singer. Sure Levon and Rick had plenty of hits, but Richard held it down. Once he did his voice in drinking, Rick Danko had to take over and he couldn't quite keep it going. However, late band had some gems. Most notably "Acadian Driftwood". Stage Fright album is my favorite personally. Before the Flood is the best live album IMHO.

Even at their worst I still dig them though. Their whole deal is just so righteous to me. I wish their singing style was relevant to the music I want to make because I've spent 1,000 hours minimum singing along to them in the car. For Rick, bob your shoulders like a muppet. For Levon, open your velum and leave it open. Nasalize everything. For Richard, pretend your a hound dog ripping and pull at the words. For all 3, hard R's, all the time.

I had never seen that live performance. I really liked I Become Small And Go, and still do. Take Back The Universe was disappointing to me largely because it was mastered soooo loud.

The subsequent stuff I liked a lot less.

I have an EP of a band named "On the Speakers" which was the 2 main guys in CL. It's just 6 songs, but it has the same basic sound as them and it's great. It was actually our introduction to them.
