Interesting recent “Rig Rundown” for King Gizzard.

I’m not into everything these guys have done, but I love their attitude. Makes me proud to be an Aussie!

my bandmate recently described them to me as "a bunch of folk who like listening to different music as much as they love making music" which i think is really accurate. like i'm not super into a lot of the blues inspired stuff but i really loved infest the rats nest.

Have you seen them live? If you haven't I strongly recommend it. I can't say that I listen to their records all that much but I got to see them this summer. To be honest I mostly went because Amyl and the Sniffers were playing first (one more reason to be proud to be an Aussie!) and they absolutely f**ing blew my socks off. I expected to see a bunch of music geeks staring at their shoes on stage and got an hour and twenty minutes of Funkadelic-type party mayhem instead. They are hilarious and, man, do they play. The set went from EDM to nu-metal (!!!) to doom metal to psychedelia to whatever-the-hell-that-was, but the whole thing felt like one band. Very, very impressive stuff.
They are also very popular among kids over here in France, which is always a good sign.

Recently I have had the new Magdalena Bay record on repeat in my workshop. A friend heard them and said "yeah, they sound like a top ten band on Rateyourmusic", and while he isn't wrong (they are currently in the top two on Rateyourmusic) the whole album is extremely well-crafted and refreshing. Post-ABBA vibes on this banger : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xcq3xMCcGlI

I had also managed to miss Sorry's 925 when it came out in 2020 but, wow, what a record. I am a sucker for slightly twisted modern pop it seems. Every single song in there is great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiBTA5BCl1Y (note the Tear for Fears quotes in there)
They just released a new single here (this one has references to...Toni Basil??) and will be touring the UK with Fontaines D.C. later this month.

Since I just saw them last night, there are The Surfrajettes which is an all female surf guitar band from Ontario, Canada.

Another band is Sunday 1994 out of LA. Female vocals but the music is late 80s / early 90s moody alternative.

Love the Surfrajettes! Miss Shermy has great taste in guitars and gear, and she can play the heck out her stuff. I loved the (now old) story of how she got a Squier Jaguar painstakingly pimped out, different pickups, etc, and refinished in sparkly green with a matching headstock. Anyone who can afford Fenders but rocks Squiers in public is cool with me.
