The magic of poetry set to music .... Both very beautiful:
"I would love you more than life, If you'll only be my wife. I'm gonna love you night and day, I'm gonna try in every way. I'm gonna find a place to live, give you all I've got to give. I would love you more than life, If you'll only be my wife ...."
Sting: "When We Dance."

This should possibly go in the drunk thread. But, wow. What a songwriter.
TL/DR: no one loves an essay. Sometimes bands do a derivative thing really well.
Growing up in the UK in the 90s, and having an older brother who brought home Metallica, RATM & Nirvana albums was pure luck when it came to growing up. I’ll never be able to articulate it, because I don’t know any different. But, fuck.
Rock music. Yes. It was everything. Perfect. And it still is.
Pure serendipity. It just happened. And not just that. I also grow up living next to a US air base.
For every Bush & Silverchair grunge 2.0 band me & my friends were getting from Kerrang, I also heard the sound of skatepunk beyond just green day & offspring a tiny bit before it hit the mainstream. I loved the pop sounds, especially the derivative sound “fat” style that took over everything.
At the same time, there are always one or two who just do it better than anyone else. Like these guys. Just so damn amazing.

And, who fucking cares about overdubs. I got why the righteous kids hated it. Teenagers be raging.
And so also this band. Possibly better live than RATM. I mean that. And I don’t think there’s a better live band than rage. So maybe a shitty socal ska-punk band might be the best thing I’ve ever seen? Weird. Or maybe it’s just really clever 1 guitar bands.
Anyway, memories of these guys, the Ataris & many other bands at the LA2 in my youth

Huey Lewis + The News - "Sports"
It just felt right today. Is it hokey and of its time? Absolutely. Is it still a legitimately great record? Yes. Walking on a Thin Line is a fucking jam.

My heart continues to break over the war in Ukraine. The recent attack and destruction of the dam is unpardonable: pain, suffering, terrible ecological devastation it's causing ....

The great Miss Ani DiFranco: Revolutionary Love.
Here are the lyrics (in part):
"I will tend my anger
I will tend my grief
I will achieve safety
I will find relief
I'll show myself mercy
I'll show myself respect
Yes, and I'll decide when I'm ready
To forgive but not forget
And I will ask you, I'll ask you questions
And I will try, try to understand
And if you give me your story
I will hold it in my hands
Yeah, I will bring the love (the love, the love)
The revolutionary love (the love, the love)
I will bring the love (the love, the love)
The revolutionary love (the love, the love)
I will bring the love (the love, the love)
The revolutionary love (the love, the love)
The revolutionary love
(Revolution)
(Revolution)
(Revolution)
And even if you hurt me
I will not shut down
No, you can't make me hate you
And carry that hate around
Yeah, I will see no stranger
Only parts of myself I don't yet know
Yes, and I'll see right through evil
To a wound, too scared to show
Yeah, I have the power to stay open
Oh, I have the power to be
The one that I've been waiting for
The one who sets me free
Yeah, I can bring the love (the love, the love)
The revolutionary love (the love, the love)
I can bring the love (the love, the love)
The revolutionary love (the love, the love)
I can bring the love (the love, the love)
The revolutionary love (the love, the love)
The revolutionary love
(Revolution)
(Revolution)
(Revolution)
Oh, well I will tend my anger
Yes, I will tend my grief
I will achieve safety
Yeah, I will find relief
Yeah, I'll show myself mercy
I will show myself respect
Yes, and I'll decide when I'm ready
To forgive but not forget
