Fuck yeah! I recently went through a whole punk revival thing and I've been loving it. I never realized how musical DOA was...

Re: 7 Seconds
There's a huge amount of genuinely great melody and structure crammed into so many 1'30" early hardcore songs.
Punk, as a broad spectrum, has been my mainstay taste since my 'awakening' to it at 12 years old in the early 90s. If someone says they don't like it, it's just because they've not found their flavour yet.

Re: 7 Seconds
I have two fun stories about DOA...
Back in 99 there was a HUGE punk festival in Toronto.. it was part of a touring punk festival called Social Chaos 99..
DOA was on the bill.. it was at this punk club (Its now a CB2) that had 3 floors.. so they had 3 bands on at a time..
The show started at noon and went until 2am... DOA was booked to play the main stage at like 10pm.. The DOA guys got bored,
so they set up on Queen st and played a set in the middle of the day, in the middle of the city..
2nd story.. I went to see Motorhead about 20 years ago, DOA was also on tour and were playing at a different venue in Toronto the same night.
I go up to the bar and there is Joey Shithead.. (DOA singer.guitarist)
I ask him "Don't you have a show tonight at the other end of the city."
JS: "Yeah but im not missing fucking Motorhead"
Fucking classic.

Re: 7 Seconds
the crew is probably a top 5 punk record for me, up there with My War, Pink Flag, No Control and Zen Arcade.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Re: 7 Seconds
The first band I ever saw live! It was the Murder tour in 1990, at The Duchess of York in Leeds..
The place was rammed & absolute chaos!! I'd never seen anything like it. That night was literally life changing!

Re: 7 Seconds
love 7seconds! Though I haven't given them a spin in over a decade- actually probably TWO decades, geez.
One of the great hardcore/quasi-straight-edge rowdy bro-bands of my crew back in Jr High/Highschool transition period.
7 Seconds & Minor Threat voiced a lot of my teen angst.

Re: 7 Seconds
This is a wild one, but does anybody know what kind of guitar and amp they use for their early stuff like Skins Brains and Guts? Same for Minor Threat - anyone know what they used? I absolutely love their sound so I've always been curious. These two bands have some of the best sounding mixes of all classic punk rock in my opinion. I also love Fang's Landshark, that guitar is massive too. Reagan Youth's first press had a great mix (fuck that New Red Archives cymbal-less remix!), also LA's Wasted Youth's Reagan's In is basically a perfect punk mix.
In my opinion punk bands don't sound very punk without the guitar and cymbals foregrounded in the mix.

Re: 7 Seconds
I can only speak to minor threat, but all the footage I’ve seen from the early 80’s shows Lyle with a sunburst LP, and the stuff with BB on guitar shows him with an sg that kinda looks like a copy, but I can’t be too certain about that.
Lyle always looks like he’s plugged into some kind of Marshall head, but I can’t be certain if that was his, or someone else’s at whatever show they were playing.

They would probably answer.DeathJag wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 2:55 pmThis is a wild one, but does anybody know what kind of guitar and amp they use for their early stuff like Skins Brains and Guts?
