Is this the Summer of Retro?

Post by fuzzjunkie » Sun May 22, 2022 9:25 am

I know all the artists and bands that haven’t been able to tour for the past 2-3 years are itching to play shows.

I haven’t checked for specific band’s tour schedules other than a few friends, but the one that pop up in my feed all seem to be ‘80s and ‘90s bands.

The Psychedelic Furs, Bauhaus, Echo and the Bunnymen, and on and on. All bands I enjoyed back in the day, but not all that interesting now. I even saw mention of a possible Joy Division tour? How would that work exactly?

I guess it’s not any different than a past their prime tour from The Who, Aerosmith or ZZ Top, and they’re not doing Casino tours like Blondie and Pat Benetar, but I guess I just expected more from the post punks.

Wouldnt a Joy Division tour just be New Order?

they could do a hologram tour like Dio.

I don't mind the retro. Plenty of bands I never got to see when I was young & broke. Just saw the Exploited on Thursday.

a couple of years ago, new order were touring their newest record and peter hook and the light were on the road as well. everyone said hook's shows were brilliant and i heard no real praise for NO's show at the time, but i saw NO on that tour and thought it was pretty good.

As co-writer and musical signature/bass-engine of the band, I think he has every right to go out there and play those songs - and it's not as if he's calling himself JD or NO.
His book is well worth the read.

You might just be getting targeted ads, because I’m not seeing that trend

EVERYONE is touring. At least in the U.K. the last few months have been insane, so many albums out over the last 3 years that people are promoting, plus other people who gotta pay the bills.

Still no rearranged Brian Wilson dates though :'(
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Gotta pay the bills and touring's the only way to do that now.

I've got Stereolab tickets for late summer, these kinds of bands are more likely to get me interested than the punks of my youth - I just can't get hyped to see Milo Auckerman singing about girls at the age of 60 (though I'm filled with regret on passing on Buzzcocks before Pete Shelley died).

It’s not ads, it’s from friends around the country posting on social media that they just got home from seeing Bauhaus and posting a set list, or were attending a festival with the Furs, Bunnymen, and a host of others.

Stereolab is another one for sure. I haven’t been able to keep up with them since Mary was killed in a biking accident, but I saw them quite a few times before 2002.
