What about the Way Huge Blue Hippo MKII? It's got the CE-2 chips, according to this gut shot, but it's a limited run (just started shipping this Thursday) & is a little pricey, but...........it's blue! Imagine that.

I thought about the blue hippo but not sure about it. Haven't really found many demos online. Anyone with more info about them and I'm all ears

I feel like you can get that chorus tone with any decent analog chorus pedal. I was always happy using my Small Clone for stuff like that on a less intense setting.

I've used a small clone for about 2 years and while it has served me well, it isn't tweakable enough. I actually ran across a few demos of the blue mxr analog chorus which sounded like it may do the trick

I am not a chorus guy,but those old DOD chorus pedals were analog and can be had cheap!

So, it’s been about 6 years since I made this thread. I was literally getting ready to buy tickets to see them in their show here in Nashville on their last tour. They completed the European chapter of the tour first, but then cancelled the North American tour. A few months later, Dolores passed. My dreams of seeing them were forever shattered.

Also, to set the record straight, on those original recordings Noel used the DOD FX65. It was the first pedal he ever bought and used it on linger and for the rest of his career. I just bought one. Cant believe what I paid for it but, apparently these are rising. I remember seeing them for 20 bucks a few years back. Perhaps around the time I made this thread.




Also since this thread, I’ve owned many of the choruses including a retro-sonic, a real CE-1, and CE-3. Maybe a few more? Anyway, my opinion from experience with the CE-1 and listening to their records is that most of the recorded choruses were probably done using the DOD FX65, occasionally swapping for the CE-1. However, I think the CE-1 was primarily used for its vibrato side for their recordings. Again, just my opinion from experience and what I now know about Noel’s use of the DOD.

That whole series of DOD pedals actually had a lot of gems. They are just ugly as hell. I always assumed it was boss. The more you know!

For something modern, the Julia does well on those tones. The blend knob is key here, with a lit of dry signal dialed in.

Indeed. It’s been under my nose and super affordable this whole time. If you read the article, it talks a lot of great stuff on how Street recorded Linger. Really in depth look at what they were doing. His Instagram post from a few years back is what led me to understand the fx65 was the “linger” pedal. Play that in stereo with a twin and AC 30 and there’s the cranberries magic.

So glad to have finally figured it out.

How so, just not as durable? They look similar to boss style.

They tend to fail/become intermittent. Replacements are out there, but not as common.

I have an FX90 I’m not sure what to do with for this reason. Not really usable in a live situation.

I haven't played through it in very many years (actually probably 10-15 years, fuck). It was the second pedal I ever bought, the first being a DS-2. I seem to remember it doing the grungey chorus sound that I wanted pretty well.
